Generally speaking high level government can’t have visible marks/brands/tattoos/piercings save for one discreet tattoo of a ring (typically a wedding band), have to cover any vulgar tats at all times, have to have hair pulled back or short, only one set of small stud earrings at most, etc. Very generally speaking, clean cut and largely inconspicuous. You can look up these dress codes online on the .gov agency websites, it’s all public information.

Tseng and Cissnei wear their hair loose, Tseng may be wearing something like a tilak (assuming it’s not a birthmark), Rude wears multiple loop earrings in FF7R, and Reno is a walking dress code violation.

That bit always gut punches me. I think Crisis Core does a really, really good job of giving you subtle little hints about how bad a place Sephiroth is in leading up to Nibelheim.

Like, they could have easily just told you flat out he’s not himself/hasn’t been himself in a while but I much prefer if this way — it makes you look back if you missed these little cues and realize ‘oh wow, he really was hanging by a few threads by the time Nibelheim happens’.

My natural initial reaction to any white haired character at this point is just:

Uh... what the fuck are you talking about?

Hojo is a nightmare person and makes for a great villain and Rufus has an interesting story arc throughout the series, but I just don’t enjoy that type of character. The Turks, however, fucking slap and I enjoy them immensely. I wish they got more attention sometimes, too.

Arguing for main character status for any of these people is dumb — they just don’t carry that kind of weight in the story — but other than that it’s literally fiction, people can like whoever the fuck they want. Even if it’s Hojo’s greasy ass.
