First rehearsals make my heart happy
It’s not tech week until your ASM steals your phone to take backstage selfies.
The history behind these doors, the magic that happens on and under the stage floor, the friendships built in the rehearsal room and in the seats of the house. This gem is isn't just an Opera House, it's my home and I know it's the home to many others. It's where I got my start, how I found the university that gave my passion, where I met some of my best friends and some of my biggest influences. She's still thriving and as beautiful as ever, even if she is 150 years old.

Disrespectful people in theatre really upset me, especially if it´s the audience that paid for the show. Last performance I was doing my major monologue when a guy from the first row looked straight at me, stood up and walked out of the room to get another beer! When he took his seat again, he looked at me like "you can go on now". I was totally flabbergasted and it took a lot of concentration to finish the scene. Did you experience really obnoxious crowds?Tell us some battle stories!
Good for you for powering through even though that guy was so rude!Â
I was working on props for a show and this group of girls sat right down center and decided that they were going to be a very responsive audience. It ended with them saying ‘awh’ to every other line. I was so obnoxious and we got several complaints during intermission about the loud ‘little girls’. These girls were in their early twenties…
And I was stage managing Les Miserables, during A Little Fall of Rain there was a man in the very front row opening candy. It’s the little things that people just don’t think of. I mean, here’s Eponine literally dying and all this guy cared about was his skittles, that shouldn’t be in the theatre in the first place!Â
And you always have the people who don’t turn off their phones and text throughout the show.Â
