āIve crushed myself under the weight of my own expectation.
Thereās a vast and howling ocean with no life underneath. It stretches down hundreds of miles and along the sea floor is nothing but cracked, olden rock and trenches that plunge ever deeper.
The Other Side.
Iām in a boat and Iām rowing, and the waves are lambasting the hull. Iām rocking to the side. I catch my reflection in the water, and I know if I tip, if I so much as touch that ocean, it will steal me. I will lose every part of myself. And they would have lied to me. Iām afraid they lied to me. I am afraid there is no land. There never was. Iām afraid they pushed me out here because I didnāt fit in theirs. Iām too far out to turn back.ā

A/N: A funny one, for your endless patience. I love you, my readers, and hope this makes you smile! Writing some more as we speak.......
For those that remember, the gossipy Henderson Sisters are back! They showed up after that AWFUL Shane proposal (remember that mess?!) and havenāt stopped spreading rumors from the back pew since. Enjoy!
Two hours later, a little less than halfway through service, Sam was startled awake by a slap to the back of the head. He shot up in his seat and quickly turned around, rubbing his sore scalp.Ā Ā
Three pairs of judging eyes stared him down. Ā
āBoy, you wait until you get home to sleep, you hear me?ā The eldest Henderson sister slapped his arm with her fan. Ā
āOw!ā Ā
āAnd keep that voice down! Service is going on.ā Ā
āI heard that folk that fall asleep when hearing the word of God are mixed up in sin. Thatās what makes them fall asleep. The devil in them.ā The middle sister nodded, looking to the youngest for confirmation. Ā
āThatās only for communion, Sister Henderson. But if his sin isnāt the offense, that snoring certainly is.ā The youngest Henderson pouted her lips at Sam, glaring down at him with her nose in the air. āCertainly not husband or father material. No, sir. Wouldnāt pass in my day.ā Ā
Her elder sisters hummed and nodded in agreement, aggressively fanning themselves as their eyes scanned Sam. Sam moved quickly to straighten his clothes and hair, blushing furiously before he could open his mouth to apologize. Ā
āIām so sorry, I meant no disrespect. You see, I didnāt get much sleep last night. Mercedes and I wereāā Ā
āBoy, no one wants to hear about your illicit sexual exploits in the house of God!ā The youngest sister chastised, slapping his other uninjured arm. Ā
āOW! What is with the slapping?!ā Sam cried out, catching the attention of several pews ahead of him. āI wasnāt talking aboutāthat. I meant that we had a fight andāā
A violent rumbling from his back pocket interrupted him. Sam frantically stood and pat his bottom, hoping to silence it before it rang. The pastor had just begun the fiery pinnacle of his sermon. Ā
āAnd then! Just when he had resolved to give up, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. And in that dream, saints of God, that angel said āJoseph! Son of David! Do not be afraidā"
āI beat that bitch with a bat, I beat that bitch with a bat, I beat that bitch with a batā¦ā Ā
The entire congregation turned to look at Sam, just as he managed to retrieve his phone. He answered the call with a crimson blush, gesturing toward the church doors. Ā
āSo sorry. Sorry about this. My friends, theyā¦they like to play tricks and change my ringtone sometimes.ā He nearly tripped over his own feet, bracing his fall on an older gentlemanās arm instead of the church pew. āOh, sorry! Iā¦.ā The man gave an annoyed scowl, yanking his hand away. āMy bad. What is that, an Armani? Thatāsā¦thatās a quality suit material youāve got there, sir.ā Ā
Sam finally felt the double doors behind him. He gave a relieved sigh and an awkward salute to the pastor. āAgain, Iām leaving now! Sorry! I donāt hit bitches with bats! Orā¦. or anything else!ā He shouted, pushing the doors closed behind him. A moment passed, just as the pastor opened his mouth again, before Sam popped back in. āOh, and I donāt call women bitches. And Iām sorry for saying bitches in church.ā He thought a moment, then added, blushing, āAnd Iām sorry for repeating it twice just now. Okay, Iāll justā¦..ā He gestured his way out with his thumb, closing the door more carefully to ensure it didnāt slam closed. Ā
