This would happen in the time before the main story of Bristleclan, when Silverspots first had her litter of kittens. She finds her near Gladeclan's border and takes her in as her own.

Rootkit grows up alongside Tempestkit, Hushkit, and Lyrekit as her siblings and Daylightning, the deputy, as her adoptive father. Despite being the one who went out of her way to raise her as her own, Silverspots is an exceptionally neglectful mother and its exceedingly obvious when she leaves the 4 of them alone and Lyrekit is taken by a hawk. After that Daylightning takes over as their sole caretaker, at least hes a good attentive parent. Eventually they're all made apprentices, Tempestpaw to Dappledrun, Hushpaw to the young medicine cat Frondpatch and Rootpaw to the senior warrior Flowerfleck.

Flowerfleck is a wonderful mentor to Rootpaw and they develop a close bond with one-another. She influences Rootpaw to be a strong leader and helps her have fun while out on the job. Rootpaw aspires to be relied upon by everyone like Flowerfleck is.

Late in her apprenticeship rats invade the camp, many cats are injured including Daylightning and her brother Hushpaw. Daylightning quickly died from his injuries and her and her family was shocked by their immense grief, but there wasn't time to be overtaken by sadness, Hushpaw's wounds were infected... and he NEEDED help.

Silverspots said that his fate was up to Starclan.

Everyone in the clan watched mouthes agape as she left young Frondpatch to save Hushpaw alone. Rootpaw and Tempestpaw were not trained in healing. They wanted to save their brother but they didn't know what to do. The two laid together on the rocks outside the medicine den fur bristling waiting for some sign. They got it when Frondpatches wails rang loudly from inside the den. He was gone. Tempestpaw was never the same after that day. He tried to act like nothing ever happened, and that he didn't have a mother, perhaps they never really had a mother.

When they were finally made warriors the air was dry and heavy, all they could think about were the ones that never made it. Tempestpaw was named Tempestdrizzle and Rootpaw was named Rootrain. Weedstar named them after each other, in the hopes that they would never part.

Tempestdrizzle mentored Fishpaw and Rootrain mentored Cedarpaw, they both assisted in mentoring Bella together

And then the eternal overcast came.

Moons passed, Many cats died from unexplainable causes, the entire clan was on edge. They believed that it was all their fault. Their own mother Silverspots declared that the entire clan was to blame for not being devoted enough followers of Starclan. Something didn't feel right to Rootrain. When was Silverspots ever right about anything, WHY was it our faults?!?! If anything Silverspots should be the one to fix everything.

It was Rootrains turn to make a donation to The Moon's Maw... To Starclan... Mother's orders. Then suddenly the earth grabbed her own legs, roots wrapping around her like snakes. She was being dragging into the earth. She dropped the squirrel in her mouth and screamed for help until her throat crackled. The earth contorted and crackled and she felt as if she couldn't breathe, only her neck and head was exposed now. The world spiraled. Tendrils of roots spun around her throat.

"ROOTRAIN"

Tempestdrizzles terrified voice rang out from what seemed like everywhere at once. Then she was gone, dirt poured into her eyes stinging like acid. She tired to gasp for air but her mouth was filled with dirt and rocks, coughing it up was impossible. The last thing she felt was sheer panic as she couldn't get the dirt out of her chest and throat.

And just like that. She was gone.

Rootkit was found by Scalestar, who brought her back to HillClan in moon 7. Being just a moon older than Frostswirl's litter, she is adopted by the clan's only queen and becomes sister to Snowykit, Rowankit and Bluekit. Scalestar, who is already a mother figure to the kits in canon, ends up even more involved with them in this AU, as she feels personally responsible for Root.

When time comes for her to become an apprentice, she requests to have her ceremony delayed to match her siblings'. Rootpaw and Bluepaw become healer apprentices together. Bluepaw loves and looks up to her sister, but everything about their training seems to come so easily to her and that makes Blue's insecurities even worse. Root is given the opportunity to graduate early but once again asks to delay her ceremony so Bluepaw doesn't feel left behind. Root helps Blue train her healing skills, leading to Blueleaf graduating earlier than she did in canon at 12 moons old, and Root at 13 moons.

this au would start on moon 12! rootkit is found by longfalcon, who had gone searching for rarer herbs past clan territory. longfalcon is a bit taken aback by the fact that this is ONE KIT. e may have found massifmallow and her litter before, but they were just that; a mother AND kits. she's brought back, a little after mousekit is, and they get along INSTANTLY being kits of the same age. mouse is the "SHE ASKED FOR NO PICKLES" to root being the she in question. i can see root celebrating when pipit and longf become mates because waow. sister! mouse is still kind of stupid and does not clock that pipit had basically adopted her though.

Perchlight would find tiny Root while out on her first patrol of Gatewayclan's territory i imagine, in this little au. Perch has always wanted kits, so it was kind of obvious from the moment she found her that Perch was adopting her.

Rootkit would be very loved, maybe a smidge smothered by her new adoptive mom. There wouldn't be any other kits for a while, so she was kind of spoiled by the entire clan. She would get a particular eye for bothering Oleanderrise, though. Given that he is huge, and that its wildly clear how much of a crush her mom has on him. I like to think she speeds up the process of him letting go of his prickly exterior and letting Perch in.

Hollyhockfoot would likely get a few dreams telling her to get Root a foot in both warrior and medicine cat training or something like that, leading to a kind of strange dual apprenticeship thing happening. She would struggle at first, but eventually learn to take it in stride. Her warrior mentor would be her very own adoptive father, and he would make sure she can handle anything thrown at her.

When she graduates her strange apprenticeship, she would be named Rootpath, and honored for her adaptability and emotional strength.

And she would love her new clan, but never stop feeling pulled back to her old home.

So one day, she would leave, with every intention of revival. Not alone though, with a few friends at her side and the approval of now Perchstar.
