You know what I’m tired of in fanfiction? All of the ‘soul-mate’ or ‘good/evil twin’ AU’s. What I’d really like is a good nemesis alternate universe, where the lives of all characters involved aren’t completed until they meet their nemesis. Sometimes people would go their whole lives without the good fortune of meeting this one, opposite person, who they’d have a chance to rail against. 

Truly, they’d be the most fortunate people to instinctively know that they have someone out their who is their moral opposite who they are measured by, and who in turn forces them to accept their true selves.

It was dark at first. There was so little room to move it was ridiculous. We’re small so there must be a lot of us when they packed us up like sardine or something. I don’t remember much else but I wasn’t scared or anything because all my brothers and sisters was with me. We were all together, small and tiny and /fragile/.

Then they start taking us out of this container one by one with metallic arms like tweezers. We don’t know what happened to those they took and no matter how hard we try, we don’t have any strength to pull them back with us. To keep them with us. Our arms are too skinny, too short and we were all so very scared but so very brave because we have to be for one another.

We tried screaming and yelling and banging on the walls of this tin can but it was too thick for us. All we could do was wait. I waited. The door opens and one of us gets pulled away, never to be heard or seen again.

One by one my brothers and sisters disappear into that bright light whenever the door opens. We grew smaller, thinner in numbers and just more and more scared. We still try to pull our own back but it’s getting easier and easier for them to take us.

Then one day the metallic arms wrapped around me. I tried, I really did, I clung on to the floors and the walls and held desperately onto the arms of my brothers and sisters, all of us screaming and crying and yelling. In the dark, slimy cell they put us in, I think I finally understood once I passed through the light.

They are far too self-centered to understand us.

All these creatures, these humans, saw was little noisy blobs of disgusting metaphors that they don’t realize what we are to them or to each other. When we scream they only hear gurgles. When we struggle to stay together they only saw useless flailing limbs. When we retaliate, they see danger levels.

We are Shadows and we are merely something to be experimented on.

But what they are experimenting on was cruel. The cruelty of humans knows no bound but here I am. Here I am, experiencing it first hand.

My model number is N01R, fourth generation anti-shadow suppression unit, prototype beta. That is the title they gave me when I survived all the needles and wires and pumping me with things I will never understand or know because they won’t let me.

My job is to destroy my sisters and brothers that are still out there until they destroy me.
