Still finding my art style for drawing humans now that I'm back to a tablet with no screen, it's a learning curve for sure. So in the meantime, have some Assan doodles!
I started Assan back in February and I never expected him to take this long, but here he is finally! Completion date April 21st.
I've learned my lesson this time round, we won't be hiding things under the cut so you are going to have to be tortured with the long post.
If you think you see the mistake, No. You. Don't. I couldn't fix it after I noticed it unfortunately. And I am only recently back to the craft this year so my skills are a little rusty. I had a lot of trouble with this plushie for some reason 😭
But if you think you see little elbow fluff on his front legs, you very much do! He has ear fluff as well, in case the lighting makes it hard to see that. I did also make his chest and stomach white but the lighting isn't really helping that detail be very apparent... lighting my mortal enemy.

I'm not going to lie, when I finish Davrin I will probably pose him alongside Assan, even if Assan will be bigger, lol

Lucanis sat cross-legged on the floor of his daughter’s play room with a serious expression. A short table sat in front of him, containing a teapot and a plate of gingersnaps and sugar cookies. His daughter was dressed in a bright blue dress and had a tiara perched on her head in between the horns she’d inherited from her birthing parent. .
“Hold still Papa!” she told him as she perched a second tiara on his head. Once she was happy with that, she moved on to the elven warden who sat beside him. “Hold still Tío Davrin!” she told the Warden.
“Yes, Sofia,” Davrin answered, also keeping his expression perfectly straight.
Once the little girl was pleased with the placement of Davrin’s tiara, she moved onto Assan, who sat watching the entire thing in amusement while he chewed on a bone that Sofia had insisted on giving him earlier. Sofia giggled when Assan chirped at her, but the griffon seemed to understand the gravity of the situation and was careful not to let the tiara fall off once it was in place.
She stood for a few moments considering them then announced, “Oh, you need tutus!” She dashed over to a wardrobe that contained her play clothes and pulled two tutus out. She ran back over to the table and handed a purple one to her father and a blue one to her tío.
Davrin narrowed his eyes and looked at Lucanis who was already putting on the purple tutu, clearly used to this request. Davrin sighed and began pulling the blue tutu on. “This look okay?” the Warden asked his niece.
Sofia clapped her hands. “Perfect. Now we can have a tea party!”
Davrin and Lucanis sat with Sofia for the next hour, listening to her chatter about her most recent lessons on plants and poisons from Tío Emmrich and Tío Viago. Davrin lifted a brow at Lucanis over the last one, but given who Sofia’s parents were, Lucanis considered it unfortunate knowledge that his daughter needed to know. From the time she was a small child she’d been taught by her Ren, father, great-grandmother and Tío Illario on how to recognize threats.
“And Tío Emmrich said we should never drink gingerwart truffle tea,” Sofia told her Tío and Papa seriously.
“Uh huh,” Davrin hid a smile as he exchanged a look with Lucanis. They both remembered the day that Rook and Davrin had gone to Arlathan for a picnic and Davrin had returned to the Lighthouse with a Rook that absolutely insisted that she could understand Assan’s squawks and the griffon and talked to her about worms. “Tío Emmrich is right about that.”
“Tío Emmrich also says that you once gave Mama gingerwart truffle tea,” Sofia informed him seriously.
“Your Tío Emmrich is the one who brewed the gingerwart truffle tea to begin with,” Davrin told his niece dryly.
Sofia looked scandalized. “Tío Emmrich didn’t tell me that!”
“Somehow I’m not surprised,” Davrin replied. “May I have another gingersnap please?”
Sofia offered the plate of cookies to him with a very serious expression. “You and Papa are fun to have tea parties with, though not as fun as Mila,” she informed him. She sighed. “But Mila doesn’t get to visit very often.”
“Mila is very busy learning to care for the griffons,” Lucanis told his daughter gently. “But if you want, we can go and see her and the other griffons sometime in the next few weeks.”
“I’m sure she’d be glad to see you,” Davrin added. Though Mila was now a teenager, she’d always seemed fond of Rook and Lucanis’s daughter when they visited the Wardens. Granted, all of the Wardens seemed fond of Sofia.
When they’d finished the last of the tea, Sofia declared the tea party over. “Tío Davrin, can Assan and I go play in the gardens?” she asked her Warden uncle with large brow eyes.
Davrin groaned internally. He was fairly certain that this little girl had the entire Veilguard wrapped around her fingers, even Bellara who wasn’t entirely comfortable around small children.
“Of course,” Davrin told her. “Just be careful and stay in the gardens, okay.”
“Okay! Come on Assan!” Sofia giggled and placed a hand on the griffon’s shoulder. The griffon was a few feet taller than the little girl when he stood. He pushed Sofia lightly with his beak, indicating he was ready to follow, and the little girl led him out the large doubles that opened into the Dellamorte Villa gardens.
Davrin waited until Sofia and Assan were gone before removing the tiara from his head and placing it on the table. “We are absolutely never going to speak of this again,” he told Lucanis.
Lucanis’s lips quirked into a smile as he removed the tutu and tiara. “Sure, Davrin,” the Crow replied. “You do realize she’ll probably ask you to wear a tiara and tutu the next time she wants to have a tea party with you, don’t you?”
Davrin sighed. “I suppose at least she didn’t make Assan wear a tutu.”
“We don’t own one large enough for a full grown griffon,” Lucanis replied dryly.
“She’s spoiled,” Davrin noted.
“A little,” Lucanis admitted. “But you are just as guilty of spoiling her as the rest of us are. You’re the one who made her a wooden rocking griffon before she was even born.”
“Okay, maybe I spoil her a little,” the Warden admitted. “But she’s cute.”
Lucanis chuckled and looked out into the gardens where his daughter had somehow managed to climb on Assan’s back and the griffon was trotting around the garden with her. He sobered. “I didn’t think I would ever have this,” he admitted. “A spouse, a child. Illario and Caterina were my only family for the longest time. There are times Caterina still does not approve of the way that Rook and I are raising Sofia.”
“That was something the Veilguard taught us,” Davrin told him. “That family isn’t always blood. Your daughter has a lot of uncles and aunts that love her. You have a lot of family that cares about you, even if we aren’t related. As for your grandmother, I’m sort of surprised she and Rook haven’t butted heads more over Sofia’s rearing.”
Lucanis snorted. “This is Rook we are talking about, Davrin. My spouse does not show throat to anyone, including my grandmother. I did not think anyone could out stubborn Caterina Dellamorte.”
“Rook stared down a blighted elven goddess and defied Elgar’nan, no offense, but I don’t know that even your grandmother has anything on them.”
“Probably not,” Lucanis agreed. “Shall we go see how they’re doing?” He gestured to the gardens.
“Let’s go before your daughter convinces Assan to take her flying,” Davrin suggested.
Lucanis blinked once at that, then rushed out the doors towards his daughter.
Davrin smirked and followed the harried father.
