“Aspects of the Novel” by E. M. Forster
“...story, it can only have one merit: that of making the audience want to know what happens next. And conversely, it can only have one fault: that of making the audience not want to know what happens next.” p. 27
Note: I wouldn’t recommend this book for light reading. It is a very old book, with sometimes antiquated notions on writing.
