born and raised in the new orleans, louisiana, malachi had been immersed in the lifestyle of witchcraft from the moment he entered the world. he was born into a strong coven, the strongest in louisiana and arguably one of the strongest in the south. his familial line could be traced back hundreds of years, all the way back to a tribe that practiced voodoo in africa. however, their magic oftentimes toed the line between dark and traditional.
he lived in new orleans for the first decade of his life, only for him and his siblings to be uprooted and moved to ashwick valley by the choice of his parents. he later learned that they parted ways with the coven due to a rift between his father and the coven’s leader - his grandfather.
as he grew up over the years, he grew more and more curious about dark magic and how to practice it. he came across a few members of the nox coven when he entered high school, and became close friends with them. that was how he was properly introduced to dark magic.
from that point on, he began learning dark magic. he only delved deeper into dark magic around the age of 20 when his parents were killed in a car accident. he drowned out his pain and grief the best way he knew - magic.
despite being a user of dark magic, his personality is quite disarming and, for the most part, friendly. he’s the type of guy one would never assume has a dark side. you can almost always catch him with a smile on his face or cracking a rather crude joke. however, he can be confrontational. he’s not one to sugarcoat words or beat around the bush.

THE BEGINNING::
born and raised in ashwick, the youngest child of one of the founding families, the barclays. jackson had been taught the history of his family and the existance of supernaturals as a little kid; how much his family name and heritage meant to this town. triggering the curse, embracing your powers is the greatest thing that will ever happen to you, arthur would say. juliana, however, with her soft rebellion would disagree. she insisted on keeping her and her little brother’s humanity at all cost.
arthur and jenna’s story was an old hollywood movie cliche. a nurse and and a soldier who meet at the battlefield. how romantic! except that it wasn’t. arthur was a young man who’d unintentially triggered the curse he’d been trying to avoid all his life, someone who didn’t know what he was getting into, someone who was promised he’d become a hero but ended up losing a lot; jenna was a young girl trying to escape poverty, to escape a marriage she didn’t want that her parents thought would be good for her. they were young and stupid and they didn’t have anybody else. and soon after they returned to arthur’s hometown, juliana was born. eight years later, so was their son, jackson.
perhaps his parents were once happy, but jackson doesn’t remember those times. he remembers their fights, the broken dishes, the stink of whisky, his father coming home at sunrise. at some point they ended up losing their house because arthur was kind enough to gamble all their savings away, on top of not having a job. they moved in a small apartment at the outskirts of ashworth and it was juliana who’d mostly take care of the rent. she was the adult of the house, took the parental role for jackson. she’d take care of him, give him money, make him dinner, drive him to school.

it was no surprise that jackson grew up to be quite the problem child. he’d spend more time in detention than the classroom, his grades were the last of his priority. parties, girls, feeling good - that’s where it was.
too young to get a job, he’d learn how to steal a wallet without anyone noticing, how to pick a lock be it a car or house. he wanted to contribute, to help out juliana. she scolded him the first time he brought 100 bucks home, demanding to know where they came from so he’d sneak 10 dollar bills in her purse, buy groceries while she was out working.
one day he came home to find all of juliana’s belongings gone; all except a little note that said sorry, jax. please take care. arthur hadn’t even noticed; jenna was reassuring for the first time jackson could remember - everyone leaves eventually, son. did you think she’d care for you, love you unconditionally? no one does that. you’ve only got yourself at the end of the day. a part of him was angry at juliana -- why would she leave? the only person in the world who truly cared about him, why would she? what did this mean? but then again, he could never hate his sister. he hoped she was happy, wherever she was. she didn’t have to deal with this mess anymore.
perhaps a part of him knew what he was doing that night; maybe he wanted to challenge juliana’s views. or he simply lost control. fights weren’t an unusual thing for jackson; but that time, he couldn’t stop. he’d worked every job under the sun, but now he had to think of the futures. he’d always been passionate about cars and stealing them so with some effort and some threats jack ended up with his own auto shop. something he’d enjoy doing, something that would earn him good money, something his kids would inherit.
marriage and relationships were complicated and while jack tried not to fall into his old habits, he failed. a baby out of wedlock; a woman exhiled from the pack because jackson barclay could do no wrong. his wife raising a child that wasn’t hers. their marriage had always been messy and complicated and jack tried hard not to make it into another arthur and jenna situation. the thought terrified him, disgusted him. he’d keep on fighting. he and his wife would do anything for their children; so the twins were born. the babies of the family, supposed to be their saving grace, but it wasn’t so easy. while jack and his wife mostly bonded over trying their best for the family, for the kids, perhaps sometimes his ideology did them more harm than good.
fatherhood is difficult and arthur, long gone now, creeps up in his mind all the time. jackson wants the best for his kids. but the world is hard, and they need to be prepared.

-So Rora is a banshee...she just doesn’t know it yet.
-It all started a year ago in her old town she became almost obsessed with drawing the face of a man she’d never seen before. For about a week she found herself dreaming of him and sketching him obsessively and couldn’t figure out why she couldn’t get whoever this was out of her head. Her dreams became so vidid she began to have trouble differentiating them from reality. One night before she went to bed Aurora took a look in the mirror and saw the man standing there instead of her own reflection. There was a horrible unfamiliar feeling in the pit of her stomach, she dropped to her knees and let out an earth shattering scream. Two days later she turned on the news and the man she’d seen had been reported missing. She wasn’t sure how but Aurora was positive he was dead.
-Her grandmother is a banshee and the gene skipped a generation. Aurora’s grandmother hasn’t fully told her about the supernatural world because she isn’t sure if Aurora is ready to handle everything that comes with it. Aurora’s parents are unaware of the supernatural world as well.
-Aurora has had some clairvoyant experiences and unexplainable predictions in her dreams regarding death that she’s kept to herself. The only person who she feels safe talking to about these things is her grandmother. She’s also the only person who’s able to calm Aurora down.
-She moved to Ashwick Valley because she felt drawn to the town. The closer she is to waking up to her supernatural abilities the more curious she finds herself about Ashwick
-Aurora loves art and drawing but she’s found while she lets her mind wander her drawings are a bit more disturbing than usual. Some she doesn’t even remember creating. Her being a banshee is beginning to seep into her artistic skills and she’s not sure what this means.

Minica is the second born child of Francis Faust and Dahlia Hannigan. Coming from a long lineage of hunted witches, Dahlia had kept the truth hidden about her daughter’s nature and attempted to stifle her magic as long as she possibly could. Why you ask? Dahlia would say it was to protect her young child from the dangers of the occult world. The real reason? It was a hidden fear and jealousy that her daughter had magic running through her veins and she did not.
This made growing up difficult. Especially in her teen years, where her father’s drinking and abuse would worsen. All the while her mother’s neglect couldn’t offer any solace in a toxic household. At the ripe age of thirteen, Minica began noticing she had a unique set of abilities she could tap into. Sudden bursts of magic, stoked by anger and fear, would start to become unmanageable in an unwitting child. Though she tried her best to hide this from her parents.
Near the end of high school, Minnie would find kinship in a small teenage coven, where she started to unravel the truth about herself, her abilities, and the history of her own family. . . Confronting her parents only proved to be a step in the wrong direction, as the use of magic brought upon an irrational anger and fear. They attempted to bind her magic, in some sort of botched ritual gone wrong. Bound and tormented in the basement for days, Minnie would tap into a darkness that helped set her free. The flickering of a fire that was used to threaten her own life would magically engulf her family and their home.
It was when the Faust residence burned down, that Minica had left the town running. She would begin a solo journey searching for herself and trying to find more answers. However, everything kept drawing her back to Ashwick, and for as long as she tried to stay away, the recent passing of her mother finally drew her back in.

twenty-seven years ago in a forest in norway, a young infant would be found screaming out to the world that she was still there. alone in an abandoned cabin, signs of a struggle outside and within the only clues that she had not been left willingly. to this day, the status and whereabouts of her parents remains unknown.
eventually her cries were heard, drawing eirik sigewulf to the cabin and child within. it was an easy decision to take the child with him, naming her rúna and opting to raise her as his own. it wouldn’t be until five years later that that the original werewolf would realize his adopted daughter was no mere human. rúna was a witch, and a powerful one at that. the manifestation of her powers is what led to the pair moving from norway to ashwick valley, eirik’s birthplace and a hub for the supernatural.
it was around this time, after the reveal of her magic, that rúna’s curiosity about her birth family began to blossom. after years of pestering her father for information, he finally relented when she was about thirteen years old. there wasn’t much to be told, as it turned out. not knowing what had truly happened all those years ago at the cabin, the chance of danger was too high a risk. eirik hadn’t searched for answers, making her safety a priority. as he would continue to do into the present.
searching for the truth of her heritage became more of a background hobby, instead choosing to focus on her studies, both magical and mundane. in being the daughter of an original werewolf, she gained a much larger family in ashwick. a pack. along with her father, they had a centuries worth of knowledge to impart on her, and rúna chose to absorb each lesson like a sponge. she excelled in both academics and physical forms of combat, the latter being her father’s way to help protect her from the world. it seemed not knowing what had happened to her birth parents haunted them both.
when it came to witchcraft, rúna chose not to join a coven, claiming her loyalty was and always would be with the pack. wolves had raised her, and the witches would never truly be able to claim her. that said, when the offer of a magical education was offered, she wasn’t so foolish as to turn the kindness away. if she didn’t know how to use her power, accidents would happen and people would get hurt. not to mention the way in which it might open up new ways to find the answers she so desperately sought about just what happened just before she’d been found as a baby.
as mentioned earlier, rúna excelled in academics. a truth that was beyond evident when she graduated high school at the early age of fourteen. she still credits the homeschooling from the original wolf pack for this achievement. college was an interesting challenge, given her young age. her first four years were put into an art degree, with film photography becoming her favorite medium, and another in folklore & paranormal studies. but two degrees weren’t enough. the next three years were put into an environmental sciences degree, her connection to nature driving her desire to find help protect the environment and fight climate change. a year and a half later she would earn her masters in environmental sciences, and this past may would mark the earning of her doctorate in the subject.

HISTORY
marceau boucher’s story started before he was even a thought in his mother’s head. marceau’s maternal grandfather was a freedman who had moved his family to new france, where they acquired a farm to sustain themselves. their mother grew up entrenched in cajun culture, learning french before the english her father spoke. life was never perfect, but it was better than others had. that was—until the year of 1803. she was only thirteen when napoleon bonaparte sold all of the louisiana territory to the united states, the same country her father had fled all those years before.
once again, they would flee, only this time across oceans. paris, france had been heralded as a safe haven for african americans. it was in paris, for the first time in his long life, that marceau’s grandfather stopped looking over his shoulder every other second. it was in paris that marceau’s father would meet their mother, where the two would have a quiet wedding and a child. paris shaped marceau—the first fifteen years of his life were chaotic, the monarchy desperately fighting for its crown back. once they did claim the crown, life in the eastern district grew even more chaotic, as famously described by victor hugo.
at twenty-five years old, spurned by the city that had so lovingly welcomed his mother thirty years before, marceau took up arms. it was during an early revolutionary riot that marceau was nearly trampled and saved by a mysterious stranger. long since disenchanted with their life, it took very little for them to be swept up in the romance of this stranger. see, they lived the life of le bohéme, of art and poetry and love. not only had this stranger saved marceau’s life, but they showed them an entirely new one. marceau didn’t even flinch when the stranger revealed their true nature and offered him a piece of it.
of course, as it seemed to be so common then, not long after marceau’s change did their sire disappear. lucky for marceau, they could fit in anywhere, and soon they were living the life they’d once wished for. still, they swore they would never do what their sire had done to them. no, he would be loyal to his sirelings for life.
once the americas were more welcoming to folks like him, he found himself drawn back to the place his mother had come from. they traveled from place to place, too restless to stay anywhere for too long. it was during this listless travel that marceau (now going by mars in the modern age) met oz. to this day, mars insists that meeting was their third birth (first, human. second, vampire. third, oz’s). they kept their nature a secret, growing infatuated with the delicate human with strange sensibilities and even stranger acquaintences. of course, they planned to turn ozwalt sooner rather than later, but the choice was taken out of their hands when oz got into a fatal car crash. since then, oz has insisted he hates mars for everything between them, but mars is still convinced they’re soulmates. recently, mars has come to ashwick not only interested in the invincibility promised, but to once again be close to oz.
mars is far from the “appropriate” vampire one might expect from today’s media. they frequently indulge themselves in supernatural delights—expect no “vegetarian” vampire here.

BIOGRAPHY.
madison was born to a forbidden relationship between a hunter father and a witch mother. from the moment of her birth, madison was incredibly loved by both her parents although the bright little girl couldn’t say she felt that same love from either of her grandparents or through her parents sides of their families with the exception of her hunting uncles; being seen as the abomination of the families, disliked immensely but madison, as little as she was to even understand the hatred towards her always responded to them with a kind temperament.
from the age of six on up, madison was trained in both magics and began her hunting training with her father firmly believing she should know how to defend herself and from a young age, she was exceptionally gifted at most weapons but found her talent and gift in the hunting crossbow. from thirteen madison would become a pro at the hunting life and excel with the magic her mother would teach her and madison would fall in love with magic as she did with her skill of a bow, learning everything she could pertaining to magic and using it to help others rather
madison would continue to live her life with as much of a kind touch as possible, aspiring to one day become married to the love of her life and she was happy to wait for that love despite society telling her otherwise that she had to be married but madison dejected that notion, holding onto the firm belief that love would be worth waiting for for that right one to come along and she had a few prospects from a fellow hunter she would briefly see but it was not meant to be as their views were too different, he viewed every supernatural as an evil entity whereas madison did not. she preferred only to hunt whenever it was necessary as madison couldn’t stomach taking another’s life if she could help it though she had the perfect skill and capability to do it. maddie didn’t mind holding a friendship with those she was morally obligated to kill such as the original vampire jaesun kang, whom she grew to become intrigued by and came to respect him the most out of any of the original vampires, finding a comfortable friendship within him, intrigued by the life he had led for the past near nine hundred years.
at twenty six, madison would enter a knee deep friendship (relationship ?) with a vampire, one lost and was simply trying to find his way through immortal life and madison was there every step of the way to ensure he could live within her town safely, even going as far to allow him to feed from her as a last resort when he needed it. though through the years, their friendship could become shaky at times as madison would sometimes find herself cleaning up a mess of his when he went too far on a binge, making excuses when any suspicions would fall onto him but madison was no quitter, once you had her trust and friendship, she would be a loyal friend to the end.
everything began to fall apart for madison when she was twenty eight, the town fell under attack from vampires, her mother and little brother being of the casualties in the massacre, their bodies along with others displayed as a sporty display. the hunters of the town joined together aside from madison who did what she could to protect her friends who would inevitably be targeted though it wasn’t without consequence. her friendship with the vampires was discovered and madison was seen and treated as a traitor amongst hunters; she wasn’t a true hunter they said when they also discovered her origins of birth that she was also a witch. the group played judge, jury and executioner to madison, even more hurtful that her own family members would allow what would come next: they would overpower her to first murder her where it wouldn’t kill her instantly, it was to be slow and steady with a finale of throwing her into an empty grave to leave her to bleed to death or be buried alive, whichever would come first but what they hadn’t realized was madison had accumulated vampire’s blood within her system only the night before from allowing her friend to feed on her but it went too far and he nearly killed her only to fix his mistake by feeding her blood. madison would die and she would end up digging through her own grave as a creature she didn’t ask to become.
madison would return to life though only as a vampire and she would not adjust to it well. it was a life she never wanted to live and had initially refused to complete the transition, allowing herself to die as she was meant to until hunger overtook her and she killed one of the townspeople, an old friend she’d recognize from youth. with her sire having fled town once he’d realize what he’d unknowingly done to madison, she was essentially abandoned and left to deal with transitioning on her own and the overwhelming guilt of taking lives would drive madison to beg jaesun, the original she would turn to when she had no one else, to end her life, to stake her. with his refusal, she would then attempt to burn herself alive to sunlight until jaesun convinced her otherwise, convincing her that vamprism wasn’t the end but the journey didn’t end there. madison for a period had lost that kindness she once possessed, replaced by a nasty bitterness and grief for her life being forcefully taken, for being abandoned, for being hated from the moment she was born, for being hated for her kindness and it was her kind heart that only brought her death and suffering. jaesun would show her the right path of being a vampire, retouching that kind soul she let go and over time, she began to start to accept her death and would begin the process of healing from the trauma of being betrayed and murdered, allowing herself to finally look at vampirism differently; choosing to then live her immortal life doing for others as she had as a human rather than be bitter although she can’t help but sometimes grieve for that life lost and still wishes to have died blissfully as a human.
OTHER TIDBITS AND INFO / HEADCANONS.
madison is the last (un)living member of the liu hunting family. they were a famous hunting family through the years of 1775-1929. after her death, she was disowned as a member of the family and maddie watched her whole family one by one over the years fall to death by the supernatural until the last member in their family line died in 1929.
if given the choice, obviously madison would have chose to grown old as a witch. she would not have chosen vampirism in any light and if you ask her her opinion on if you should turn, she’d recommend anything else but is supportive if that’s the route they want to take.
madison does her best to be a reflective vampire to what jaesun has tried to teach her and surprisingly since she got past the initial hurdle of vampirism, she is a very controlled vampire. she can handle and manage her urges easier than most.
she still holds hunter skills and capabilities and can kill her own kind fairly easily although older vampires are a bit harder obviously but she hasn’t actually staked one of her own in years. the last time she staked one was around 1973.

kang jaesun: jaesun was really madison’s saving grace, mostly from herself; he helped her through her transition when she wanted to end her vampiric life before it could begin. he helped her begin to accept her death and it was him alone who restored the kindness maddie once lost due to bitterness and grief of her own life being taken from her. he is her best friend and is fiercely loyal to him, being eternally within his debt and will do anything for him he asks of her.
