Pulled one more shift at the kilns this morning, and it was Hot. We made great progress tearing both kilns down this week, so we’re in decent shape for the upcoming move in the next few weeks.

i’m 14 and i’m evil!!!
And the cat kiln is down, with lots of bricks salvaged for the future train kiln. The chimney came down fast and furious, so not much from that other than my scratched up forearms and a sore elbow. We did get the wall laid down in one piece, but then it broke apart when we were lowering it to the pallet. I think we’re going to still try keeping it as an installation!
From there it was pretty straight forward to disassemble the kiln floor and the base of the fire box. The brick shown was from the floor with at least a quarter inch of glass on it from the past four years. The cast-ables were still in great shape as well but we set those out to be put up for grabs, as they were specific to this kiln (and the new gas-wood hybrid is to be a sprung arch kiln). The frame was cut to free the remaining cinderblocks we’re also giving away, as we’re concerned they may have degraded from the heat of the firings. I saved a few more bricks today, and some soft bricks to seal and use for market furniture on my table.
Train kiln starts tomorrow, but after two long days I’m taking a rest. Busy on Thursday, but planning to go back Friday morning if I can.
