One of the unexpectedly wholesome things to come out of my deteriorating health is the interactions between my friends in our group chat.
Prior to surgery, I'd set up a group chat with anyone who wanted updates. That way I could keep all the info in one spot, without me and Doom Them having to juggle texting a ton of people individually.
The group chat consists of my best friends in the US, some family, and some local bffs. And at first, it was largely just me posting updates leading up to/immediately after surgery, and everyone else throwing an emoji react on the to show they saw the messages.
When my current symptoms manifested shortly after I got home from hospital, the chat continued to prove useful for updating people in one place. But the vibe has definitely changed into something far more collaborative.
Last week, I was in hysterics because @catamaranthenonnewtonianfluid shared a 'worst songs to hear in an MRI' playlist and my late 50s adoptive-mum had a listen, only to return to the group with A WHOLE lot of questions about songs like 'no cock like horse cock'.
Meanwhile, @merpancake has convinced many others to join her (joking) cause of "Let's egg the shitty doctors' cars!" 🫡 A noble cause, indeed.
@otahkoapisiakii quotes Shakespeare and the chat goes wild as we are all overcome with the spirit of Beatrice herself.
To all of the above pals, and to @swpf and @gaelic-symphony and @puddlejumper9 - - Please know both me and @phantomhag-666 love and appreciate each and every one of you.
We're so lucky to have such an incredible support system through all of this. We seriously couldn't do it without all of you 😍😭🙏
