I have been sitting on this one for almost a year. Hm maybe not but time is fake and I have been sitting on this one since darling @jaskierswolf published this story about Aro Geralt, where Jaskier has fallen for him but Geralt... canât... This story wonât make any sense if you havenât read it, so please do that, I highly recomend it! (because it is darn good)
I am still hella nervous about it but lets hope wolfie and yâall like it <3 please enjoy the smol continuation i did.
Geralt sits on Roach, Jaskier walking next to them.
He is talking again, his usual empty ramblings about everything and nothing, about everything that catches his fancy. It might be a little selfish, but Geralt is relieved.Jaskier spoke true.Â
He is withdrawing, holding back.
He is trying not to, and Geralt is trying not to feel guilty. Itâs hard.Â
âThere are many ways to love.â Jaskier told him some days prior. âI love food. I love Roach. I love you. I even love that ridiculous armour of yours, abs and all. None of these loves are the same, and yet they are all true.â
Geralt thinks about this a lot. Partially about Jaskier thinking his new armor is ridiculous, but all the ways to love.
He clings to it, holds it close.Â
All the people he lost when he said he couldnât love them. Fall in love with them. So many walked away.Geralt watches Jaskier, his smiles.Â
They are forced sometimes, and he knows he is hurting. Jaskier watches him back, looking for signs of being pushed away.
They are both trying hard. To hurt and to be hurting. Jaskier looks up at him, gives him a crooked smile, and rambles on about that weird story about a fish market.Â
Itâs the third time he tells it, but itâs alright.
âMaybe we should buy you a horse.â Geralt says suddenly.
Jaskier gapes at him.
âWhy?âÂ
âBecause I love you like you love my ab armor.â
Jaskier squints at him and Geralt barks a laugh. Jaskier does that thing where he tries to decide on an insult, mouth opening and closing and pointing his finger.
âYou-!â
âThank you.â Geralt says, stopping Roach, looking at Jaskier seriously. âFor staying. For not letting me push you away. I should stop making you chase me.â
They look at each other for a few heartbeats.
Alright. Thatâs enough of that.Â
Geralt kicks Roach to a trot.
âTomorrow.â He throws over his shoulder, and Jaskier makes those outraged bard noises that are so entertaining.Â

Hereâs a Aro prompt for you: Aro!Geralt gets overwhelmed by all the love and affection that Jaskier gives him and tries to explain his feelings about it without hurting Jaskierâs feelings
This one is a bit hurty... sorry? I think I projected a bit too hard on this.
Edit: Now with a sequel by the wonderful @dapandapod!
________
Geralt buried his face in Roachâs mane. The horse snorted and butted against him, he chuckled and stroked her forehead. Heâd already taken off and cleaned her saddle, resting it by the bedrolls, now he was just enjoying a moment of peace with his horse before Jaskier returned from the river. He groaned as his thoughts circled back round to the bard. Jaskier was the cause of his current turmoil. The bard had been getting increasingly amorous of late. The casual touches lingered longer than usual. The winks and smiles at the audience were, more often than not, now aimed solely at Geralt, and Geralt was starting to worry. Jaskier was known to fall in love easily; too easily, and whilst Geralt knew that his friend was physically attracted to him, heâd thought that was all it was.
Now he wasnât so sure, and Jaskier was only setting himself up for heartbreak.
It wasnât that Geralt didnât care for him, of course he did, they were friends. Jaskier would even call them best friends but Geralt wasnât really sure what it meant to have a best friend, and he was worried about letting Jaskier in only to get hurt. Too many humans had left him once they saw the monster underneath, it was only a matter of time⌠and yet, Jaskier appeared to only be getting closer.
Geralt sighed and mounted Roach, sitting backwards on her bare back, resting his cheek on her croup. âWhat am I going to do, Roach?â
Roach didnât answer. She never did, not in the way Jaskier did, he liked that about her; she listened.
âI donât want to lose him, but keeping him like this isnât fair.â
He hummed, closing his eyes. He wanted to love Jaskier in the way that the bard wanted, to prove that the rumours of witchers not being able to feel were fucking shit, but heâd tried before to no avail. He was never enough, his love was never enough, and Jaskier would not be the exception.
âGeralt?â
Geralt cursed and dismounted Roach, glaring at the bard who was barely concealing his laughter in the middle of the camp. âNot a word, bard.â
âOh come now, witcher. You know me better than that! Sooo⌠what delightful conversation were you and darling Roach having?â Jaskier teased, putting one hand on his hip.
His teal doublet was open, revealing the dark chest hair underneath. He wasnât⌠unattractive, and Geralt thought that if he wasnât so worried about the bardâs heart, Jaskier could be good bedmate. He tore his gaze away and turned back to his horse.
âRight, yes. Ok then,â Jaskier sighed, the sound stabbing Geralt in the chest.
âJaskier, I need⌠fuck,â he pinched his nose and growled.
âGeralt?â
âI. I canât fall in love with you, with anyone.â
Jaskier frowned, a deep blush staining his cheeks, his sweet scent souring instantly and Geralt reached out to take the bardâs wrist before he could run away. Jaskier bit his lip but didnât pull his hand from Geraltâs grip. âWhy are you telling me this?â
âDidnât want you getting hurt,â Geralt said, pleading with his eyes, hoping that Jaskier would understand.
Jaskier swallowed and nodded slowly, Geralt could see the tears in his eyes. âRight. Right. Well, ok then.â
âIâm sorry.â
Jaskierâs eyes widened, smiling sadly at Geralt. He cupped Geraltâs cheek. âOh dear heart, no. You have nothing to be sorry for. I wish you had told me sooner, saved myself the embarrassment, but thatâs not your fault.â
Geralt frowned. He was too late.
He was always too late.
âIâll help you pack.â
Jaskier stumbled backwards, gaping, words failing him as they did whenever something offended him. âYouâll do nothing of the sort!â
âBut I hurt you.â
âUnintentionally and unwillingly. I fall in love all the time, my dear, and I fall out of love just as fast. I umm⌠I might just need some time to lick my wounds, but⌠youâre my best friend and I love you, in whatever way youâll have me.â
âHmm.â
âGeralt?â
âYes?â He raised an eyebrow at the uncharacteristic quiet in Jaskierâs voice.
âIâm. Iâm going to be sad⌠about this,â he said with a wave of his hand âand I donât want you to take it personally. Iâm still here, I still love you, Iâm still your friend⌠butâŚâ
âI know.â
âYou do?â
Geralt nodded and Jaskier sighed, scratching the back of his neck.
âAnd you wonât push me away?â
Geralt gritted his teeth. He didnât want to push Jaskier away, but it wasnât an easy thing to promise. âTry not to.â
Jaskier sighed again, he did that when he was sad, and Geralt couldnât help but feel a twinge of regret that he had caused this, no matter what Jaskier said. Jaskier plastered a fake smile on his face. âWeâll figure it out; together. Itâll be an adventure. Weâre good at those!â
Geralt chuckled, pulling Jaskier into a hug, needing the reassurance that his friend was, indeed, still there. Jaskier was slower than usual at wrapping his hands around Geraltâs back but he did it, and there was a glimmer of hope, glowing beneath the surface of the water.
They would be alright, maybe not immediately but one day.
