Army Nurses travelling on a barge during their assignment to India in 1945. One nurse is soaking her infected foot. Daphine Doster captions the photo "You don't see the dirt or get the smells here." And yet, they’re smiling for the camera! "http://libcdm1.uncg.edu/cdm/singleitem/collection/WVHP/id/857/rec/1

Note in the 2nd photo profession is listed as “trade” or “Calling” Anastasia Roche was also a native of Gundagai. Anastasia travelled to Egypt and served with Eleanor Perry at the same hospitals during WWI. Anastasia was also awarded the 1st Class Military (Red Cross) Cross for “conspicuous service”. Due to the high volume of casualties, patients were also cared for on hospital ships. Anastasia and Eleanor truly experienced nursing in the trenches and were denied respite, assistance and acknowledgment of their service on their return. Today, We Will Remember Them, and thousands of ANZAC, British, Canadian, Commonwealth and United States nurses that served in horrendous conditions in WWI. #lestweforget #armynurse #airforcenurse #navynurse #nursing #nurselife #werememberthem #womenatwar #bravery #thebossieaussiern #livingwithexcellence #service #anzac #armisticeday @aussie_nurses @nurse_robbie @nurserose_ @rn_ratched @thetraumaguy @eu_oncology_nursing_society @cardiacstrong @visitgundagai @nursepiration @nswnma @inmo_irl https://www.instagram.com/p/B4ruIfBl-4t/?igshid=1to0atcyb9xpn
Armistice Day - We Will Remember Them Let’s build on their legacy Lest We Forget Nurses returning from the war were expected to return straight to work, were offered no counselling for PTSD. It would take 60 years ( WWII, Korean and Vietnam Wars) before women returning from service would be repatriated with the same benefits as men. #lestweforget #armynurse #airforcenurse #navynurse #nursing #nurselife #werememberthem #womenatwar #bravery#thebossieaussiern #livingwithexcellence #service #anzac #armisticeday @aussie_nurses @nurse_robbie @nurserose_ @rn_ratched @thetraumaguy @eu_oncology_nursing_society @cardiacstrong @visitgundagai @nursepiration @nswnma @inmo_irl https://www.instagram.com/p/B4rtuuDlEQe/?igshid=1d1t62909a44e

Lest We Forget Gundagai born Eleanor Anne Perry served as a staff nurse in army hospitals in Egypt during WWI. Eleanor served in hospitals on the front line, a target of enemy fire as she carried out her duties at the bedside, in theatre, clerical, cleaning and sterilizing. Although she won the Star Medal, British War Medal and the Victory Medal during this four and a half year period, she was not entitled to any of the benefits given to the male soldiers, land grants and the Gold Card which provided assistance with medical expenses. Nurses returning from the war were expected to return straight to work, were offered no counselling for PTSD. It would take 60 years ( WWII, Korean and Vietnam Wars) before women returning from service would be repatriated with the same benefits as men. #lestweforget #armynurse #airforcenurse #navynurse #nursing #nurselife #werememberthem #womenatwar #bravery#thebossieaussiern #livingwithexcellence #service #anzac #armisticeday @aussie_nurses @nurse_robbie @nurserose_ @rn_ratched @thetraumaguy @eu_oncology_nursing_society @cardiacstrong @visitgundagai @nursepiration @nswnma @inmo_irl (at Gundagai, New South Wales) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4rtV0HFEzQ/?igshid=ayki6fkdbtre
