I’ve seen a lot of people say that Vox just sounds like Christian Borle, but I disagree. intensely. Borle is one of those actors who just seamlessly melt into any role, and he seems so drastically different in every one.
Vox is so much more intense, growly, and shouty. not one point in this season did I hear Vox speak and think, “yeah, that’s what christian sounds like.” that’s what Vox himself sounds like! even in Val’s art tutorial with Vox speaking normally, there’s an edge to his voice that Christian Borle himself does not normally have. I cannot imagine him speaking Vox’s lines, something I can normally do, other than when I see a BTS recording of him. he’s so pleasant and whimsical (but always in a sweet way) that it’s difficult for my brain to reconcile him with a lot of his characters.
logically, I know they sound like the same voice. but emotionally, his voice just is the voice of several characters that sound completely different. this is especially strong for me when he puts on an accent, such as with Shakespeare, but even Marvin and Emmet sound completely different to me even though they both “sound like christian borle.” I’ve listened to the Something Rotten and Falsettos BCRs and Hazbin OST shuffled before, and I genuinely forgot that christian was in a huge majority of the tracks. it was just the characters.
not sure if that makes sense. I think I’m just describing what good acting is and I’m overcomplicating this.
