Boy In A Ship - A film by Andrew Akinola and Lucrece Grehoua #CreativityWorksSeason8
We were challenged by Matty Groves from AppNexus to create a 90 second film in one week about anything we are passionate about.
This was an interesting challenge as instead of taking the whole week, I had many things to do and had to turn around a short film in one evening (the day before deadline). This challenged my time keeping and was reminicent of me being a freelancer, but it also made me realise that I will always deliver no matter what.
My concept was exploring the minds of males in and out of relationships. It started when myself and digital producer and photographer #EmmanuelAjayi spoke about creating a skit that would make fun of a man trying to approach a young lady in a cafe. But I wanted to explore why men approach women in the first place and what goes through their minds. Though this is seemingly a basic thought, if you ask a man why they are approaching women many will tell you that they don't know; "its just an intrinsic man thing I guess", said another friend when I asked.
Ajayi and myself began to speak about his relationship with women, understanding them and understanding his own behaviour when it comes to dating. He expressed that he does not feel the need to approach random women due to his contentment being a single man and chasing his career.
'Boy In a Ship' takes a look into the mind of Emmanuel Ajayi and allows him to open up about his past relationship and the fragments that it left in his life. It was great to hear intimate and delicate words from a man who does not express himself about such things. I hope he learned some things about himself during the interview too!
This piece was filmed by videographer #Andrew from #CreativityWorksSeason8 who was able to get a range of different shots from close ups, pans around Ajayi's body, cutaways of hands to show Ajayi's vulnerability. He also played around with light and nature to intercept the city scenes and help with the limited aesthetics in the limited time we had. It was great fun!
