I went to see Rick Riordan yesterday and I thought about giving a summary to those that want to know. Basically it was not that much we didn’t know and was a presentation about the characters and the book.
From what I remember:Â
Riordan’s publisher and editor started off with a skit dressed up as Apollo and Meg and presented Riordan.
Started off by apologizing for killing Jason in TBZ. I think he had already said it before, but the reason he was killed was because Riordan thought it was illogical not to have someone die when they are constantly fighting monsters and currently facing off with the baddest emperors that ever existed, even in a fantasy setting. He said it also hurts him too when he kills of characters because he has been writing these characters for years and to them they are family.Â
The idea of writing a book about Apollo came to him while he was out in Rome and got inspired to write about him, especially after he found that myth about Apollo being turned into a human by Zeus. He said he gets inspiration by traveling.
They asked him if he ever met Percy in real life what would he say and Riordan said: “I’m sorry.”
Then what would Percy say back: “Unprintable”Â
He mentioned he felt bad Percy has been trying to finish high school for 10 years now and he’s still forever 17 and thinks he needs to give him a break.
Mentioned again about how Percy was the story he told his son when he got diagnosed with ADHD and Dyslexia when he was doing really bad in school and got in trouble, the only thing he was interested in was Greek Mythology.
Asked about LTBG representation and responded about how it was because he had students who were in the LTBG community and he saw how much they struggled and felt he owed it to them to say that he saw them, they mattered and he cared for them. That they also could be heroes.Â
The Prophecy of the Seven was something he invented just for the last PJO book and at that moment didn’t think there would be a continuation. He started writing stories about the HOO and felt like he wanted to continue with them. When he invented the prophecy he thought seven demigods was a good number and sounded cool, until he decided to write about it and realized seven were a lot.Â
Talked about the books from Rick Riordan presents and how it came to be.Â
Gave a presentation about the characters in the book. Apparently the book will touch on Hazel, Frank and Reyna’s lose strings.
If you want to write he said it’s important to read a lot of books and that the first draft of any story is bad even for him, but he’s learned that it’s okay because it can be improved. It’s important to practice writing everyday. Anyway basic stuff.

About things to come:
The Tower of Nero is coming out in 2020 the ending is still not completely set.Â
Apollo and Meg will be back in New York and in CHB.
Will and Nico will be there. (Solangelo fans will be happy about this.)
The Camp Jupiter book will also come out and it would be like CHB Guide.
All the books coming out with Rick Riordan Presents.
Anyway that was all. I still haven’t read the book myself so I dunno, but the kids around me were super hyped. (I kinda wished someone would had asked if Percy and Annabeth were going to make an appearance in the last book, but that’s just me.)
