Ep22-23 my roman empire
So, if i got it correctly, in your art you portray Antoni and Malvina as lovers, right? Would you mind giving some info about their relationship? (No problems if not, i just love your art and would like to know more about your ocs)
Hey, hey, thanks for the ask! Oh, I have so much to write about these two.
On the outside, they seem like complete opposites: they come from different stars, one is a charismatic fashionista, while the other is an overworked inventor with poor social skills - even aesthethically, they contrast each other. And it's true! Through the course of the story they come to embrace both their differences and similarities.
They are messy people. Antoni is vain, obsessed with love and beauty, but also deeply sentimental. He is absolutely unable to cope with his own grief, just by how much his old memories and The Cynthion occupy his mind. Originating from the matriarchal society of the Pleiades, he learned how to use his good looks to get what he wants, but it only deepened his trust issues, view on intimacy and internalised ableism (he used to be an athlete, but his right wing became paralysed after an accident. It's something he tries to hide just to 'keep his beauty', even if it causes him extra pain). He was hurt by many people, though he wasn't innocent either. Malvina was just supposed to be another fool he seduced to get the informatiom he wanted.
And then you have her. The genius inventor, the one and only who invented teleportation device at the age of ten, making herself known to hundreads of star systems. Arrogant, controversial and eccentric, Malvina defines her self-worth and identity based on her achievements. Who is she without her intelligence? The Cynthion has became her main area of interest, believing the anomaly might be the key to intergalactic travel... But it's a topic for another post. Thing is, Malvina deep down years for connection, affection, something she haven't experienced in years. Despite her success, she grew up isolated from her peers, in a science facility in a highly misogynistic society. Literally a 'genius grown in a lab', never had a choice to begin with. She experienced abuse, hating the social structures and the relationships she saw, feeling safer to completely suppress her human desires. Her masculine presentation is one of her few genuine attempts at trying to express herself, rejecting some of the roles imposed on her.
Their relationship is a rocky road, I'm not sure if I could describe them as enemies to lovers, but they do have some distaste towards each other at the beginning. Snarky comments, arrogance. Malvina does get a bit infatuated with him (I mean, who can blame her, it's the first she sees a gorgeous Venusian man with majestic wings) and has a lot of complicated feelings regarding that, while he sees right through it and tries to use that for his advantage. It doesn't really go as he planned tho. They do have a pretty strong mutual attraction, with Antoni realising it much later on. They both have a wrecked view on intimacy and affection and they actually bond over the struggles they need to face in their respective societies. As well as their obsession over The Cynthion. He finds her nerdiness and curiousity about the Universe endearing, while she loves his more eccentric and sensitive self, he always tries to bury inside. At some point they do fall into a bit of codependent relationship, which is meant to be parallel to the different main couple of the series (Antoni's parents lol), but they do eventually grow as people. They kinda became a power-couple because of how much they endure together - truly equal partners, that love and respect each other.
