how are we feeling about autistic!jd headcanons? bc i lowkey headcanon him with audhd lol
oh my god im so sorry okay. i typed a whole ass yap post TWIEC, but i noticed both times i couldnt really answer this question directly due to my lack of knowledge about the topic, not knowing any close people irl with audhd. or just autism and adhd. and just. not knowing more than the average person in general. i mean i have autism headcannonss for miracle!ronica but we're not here to talk about her sadly : (. also im just not someone who has autism or adhd cuz im neurotypical.
i think i'd fw the headcannon depending on which jd we're talking about. jamie muscato and keelan mcauleys jd give off autism (i would've say ellis kirk too because him and keelan are similar but i think he's actually just really anxious all the time so nevermind.)
i feel like jamie!jd would try to force himself not to look away from veronica sometimes when trying to maintain eye contact (to seem normal) by counting how long he's been making eye contact for. okay listen this man looks like hes constantly wearing himself thin LOLL. also you could interpret him flinching a lot as him being sensitive to being touched but like. come on they added that in to let the audience know his dad beats him. but it could be both if ur a jd has autism truther.
also being seventeen and promising veronica to be normal kind of has extra weight now, because "being normal" includes societies standards of how normal people behave, and neurodivergent people aren't included in that standard. which makes you question if jd was just doomed from the start. i mean he kind of is permanently fucked up by the time he meets veronica, she literally acknowledges it (i wish we met before)
another hc i have for him specifically is that he really got into reading as a child from superhero vs supervillain comics. i think this kind of fits for him because of his whole worldview that categorizes people into "deserves to die" or not. and comics (especially ones geared towards kids) kind of make it easy to understand because you have the good guy and the bad guy. and the bad guy always gets justice served to them at the end. (too bad jd doesnt know that his form of justice is actually vengeance). however after his mom died, he never picked one up again and so his worldview started twisting
i think it would be funny if one of the ones he hyperfocused on as a kid was batman because
come on. that trenchcoat and batmans cape. and also jamie!jd flipping his coat around like hes fucking batman bro. and i think he does see himself as batman in the way that he delivers justice to "bad guys."
he rereads the comic again after he dies as a ghost (dont ask me how he got batman novels in the afterlife) and hes like woah! as a kid i loved batman i thought i was just like him. like no. buddy you are the jonkler. and hes like reading it now like "oh my god bro batman wouldve kicked my ass"
jd reading comics is cannon too in the west end script if u somehow dont know. he was reading a comic when his mother died.
takes a book into every single class he has because its easier to direct his focus onto something hes interested in. especially for math classes. why focus at math problems and not understand anything when you could finish the book ur reading? also because when hes not reading, hes just constantly thinking about what hes read. this guy cannot focus on gruelling subjects like math. but for history or english i think he'd be the brightest student he could possibly be. tho i feel like in highschool he'd discover that math isnt so bad after going into math oriented sciences like chemistry or physics because of his whole entire. fathers bomb company. he'd still get his ass kicked in grade 11 advanced functions idc #PROJECTINGTHEGRADE11FUNCTIONSDESPAIR
his tendency to not pay attention at fine details sometimes and to forget things sometimes causes accidents at demolition sites.

listen okay. its possible that his mother was mentally unwell around the time of his pregnancy, too. and pair that with a crazy ass husband whos far too enthusiastic about offering people alcohol. so. i dont think that it would be a totally wild hc to go 'jds mother drank at the time of his pregnancy'. and since alcohol is the worst thing you can poison a baby with, and the brain is the most effected by it, i think. okay just listen jd with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder
if u dont know what it is. its a lifelong condition starting from birth. its a spectrum based on how much the mother drank when she was pregnant. it goes from having trouble in school and having a certain facial structure due to the alcohol not allowing the fetus to form properly to having defects in vital organs such as the brain and the heart and memory problems.
some symptoms of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (im calling it fasd for short now) also overlap with autism and adhd. like inattentiveness, impulsiveness (impulsiveness is a big thing for people with fasd too i think-)
idk i mostly just brought it up bc some of the symptoms overlap with audhd.
