My Hero Academia OP 1 Review
Originally written: 09-25-21
My Hero Academia, the ACTUAL first anime I've ever watched. I think. To be honest, while watching it, I usually skipped the openings, so I don't remember them much. I'm rewatching them again right now just for the sake of writing the reviews. My Hero Academia is a wildly popular anime with an equal amount of critics as fans. As for whether I'm a critic or a fan? It doesn't matter, I'm just here to look at the openings.
OP 1: "The Day" by Porno Graffitti
Music: 7/10 Now that I listen to it, this song is very catchy. It has all of the essential components of a good anime opening.
Visuals: 6.5/10 They're pretty good, I'd say above average. I like the progression of it, it's very shonen.
Music + Visuals: 8/10 The way that these fit together is perfectly anime. Notable moments: the guitar solo where the characters and the title flashes on screen, the first verse with Midoriya standing in the rain, the pre-chorus with Midoriya and Bakugo facing each other and then switching places, and then the end showing the characters again getting ready to fight.
Opening + Anime: 8/10 A very "anime" opening for a very "anime" anime.
Overall: 6/10 I'd skip it, but it's pretty good.
