I have actually been thinking about creating some tutorials for watercolours and materials for a while now so … yes! Absolutely! 

If you can afford it, try some artist quality paint. Has A LOT more pigment than cheaper paint and will make it much easier to create vivid colours. You don’t need to buy all the colours of course. But if you find yourself using a lot of a certain colour - or struggle to make it pop - I’d recommend trying some artist quality paint for that one.

Choose paper carefully! Smooth hot-pressed paper is nice for working with details and fewer layers. If you like to use many layers (and lots of wet-in-wet) cold-pressed or rough textured paper is MUCH preferable.

Practice Flat Washes. My biggest regret in my entire watercolour “career” is that it took me so long to practice and master flat washes. Here’s A Video Tutorial that demonstrates the technique pretty well. Which leads me to my last tip …

Youtube Tutorials are your friend. Personally I find the best way to learn is to watch someone else’s process. Now and then I like to sit down with some snack, dinner or tea and just relax with a short video or two. And I can honestly say that I’ve learned more about watercolour technique from that than my two year MA in illustration.
