honestly it is annoying to me that the "social media censorship" discourse completely made the concept of an euphemism fall out of people's heads. if you phrase anything delicately or vaguely and it's related to a sensitive topic there's always some person coming into the comments going "this isn't tik tok!!! you can say died!! you can say raped!!" i know i can. i chose to phrase my phrase differently because of my reasons. this is not a novel or weird thing to do. you're free to disagree with this (personally i think that the transforming power of naming things in ending social stigmas is a bit overrated. either way it's not the end of things social progress wise, i think people just fixate on it because we're in the online world of words) but don't assume other people don't mean the words they're using.

#and which euphemism is used is of course to be discussed bc THERE ARE CONNOTATIONS #to saying “passed away” vs “lost the battle with x illness”#and so forth.#discussing these is fine #but its so stupid when people act like there is no value in using sensitive langauge and euphemisms #a lot of people use those bc its understood as the compassionate thing to do #its ok to not like but like. understand it exists lol
