Analog Diary : Mirabelles du Matin, Alsace July 2018 - 35mm.
Going to the garden. One of my favorite activity when with my family in Alsace, France. Two weeks this past October in the village where I spent the first eighteen years of my life, warm days of fall I truly cherish. The village, the gardens, the house, numerous places filled with memories where I am always happy to invite friends for calm moments. Naoi visited from London this year. During my recent visit we harvested tomatoes, peers, different types of pumpkins, turnips and calendulas among others. Each day I walked the road from the house to the garden an empty basket on my arm, a colourful and joyful basket on the return. When the sun was high in the sky, I hand picked calendula for tisane as advised by my grand mother. Going to the garden every day. A source of joy, freedom. My late grand father has been a practitioner of permaculture and in my upbringing often softly and joyfully stretched the importance of respecting and taking care of nature, hereby including humans and all forms of life. In the summer of 2005, 2006 and 2007, I worked in a biodynamic fruit and vegetable farm in my village. Hands in the soil from the sunrise, a second experience which helped me shape my ecological awareness, actions and love for organic food. Becoming a vegetarian and later a vegan - for so many reasons - my interest for gardening has only grown. I returned to London grateful, with fresh air in both my lungs and mind.
