Navigateur marseillais formé aux routes des Indes, Pierre Blancard introduisit clandestinement en France, de retour de Canton, trois plants de « chrysanthème indicum », fleur sacrée d’Orient. Une seule variété survécut au Jardin des Plantes de Paris : ainsi s’acclimata, sous nos latitudes, la « fleur d’or »
