I challenged my skill this year on the Somass River, catching spring and coho salmon using the Amundson Outdoor Products Ltd. TCPX-3 centerpin reel and their Cast Mob float rod. With a 1/1 ratio retrieve, and the only break is the angler's palm. There were a few instances in which I was not fast enough and got my knuckles rapped hard, but I prevailed. The BnR Tackle soft beads and their Burr beads continue to outperform

As my friend Rick Passek often says, I absolutely love mail day! With my Prime Lure order finally arriving, I’m already experiencing fantastic results catching coho salmon and steelhead in our British Columbia rivers. Just wait until they encounter my adventures along the beaches of East Coast Vancouver Island. I invite you to check out my video, where you can witness the incredible success of catching spring and coho salmon off the sandy beaches of the East Coast Vancouver Island estuaries.
I take great pleasure in sharing my adventures. I would like to invite you to join me as I discuss my achievements within the angling community.
Monday is the opening day of chinook and coho fishing on the Somass River. It's time to put away the level wind and concentrate on the Amundson Outdoor Products Ltd. TCPX-3 center pin reel, aerospace-grade aluminum one-piece machine cut frame and spool. Paired with the Cast Mob CM2116M float rod from Amundson Outdoor Products Ltd. This rod is extremely light but has the backbone to handle 10-17 pound line, M7 Modulus Graphite Blank Construction – Moderate Action.
A sliding balsa float from BnR Tackle, as well as their larger series of soft beads and burr beads, will also be set up.
While most anglers are drifting weights along the river bottom, I have found success in short floating. That is, the weight will be above the river bottom, generally mid-column depth.
The photo is from last year, using the BnR Tackle 14mm soft bead. This year it will be the 16mm, 18mm, and 20mm.
Stay tuned for Fish On With Gil 2025 on the Somass River.
Guess you can call me a hardcore pro. Willing to help those who are willing to help themselves. I will fish to whatever the circumstance re
