5" MVP Herring Lure
Our start was delayed by stubborn winds, but hope lingered in the forecast, promising calmer weather by noon. We finally launched at 11 AM. Though the wind still tugged at us, the waves had settled. The tide barely shifted, with just a modest 0.8-meter difference between high and low. The latest fishing report promised hatchery Coho between 50 and 100 feet. After two hours and a handful of wild…

The Spoon Lure
I challenged my skill this year on the Somass River, catching spring and coho salmon using the Amundson Outdoor Products Ltd. TCPX-3 centerpin reel and their Cast Mob float rod. With a 1/1 ratio retrieve, and the only break is the angler's palm. There were a few instances in which I was not fast enough and got my knuckles rapped hard, but I prevailed. The BnR Tackle soft beads and their Burr beads continue to outperform
The river is now flooded with all the rain, but in the last outing, the Twitching Jigs outperformed everything. I would like you to stay tuned for my future adventure on the twitch.

Today's adventure was extremely wet. The river had also risen 8-9 inches, and the river level was lightly crossing over the gravel island. Any higher and it will be unusable. I started with spinners and blanked out, so I changed to the Prime Lure Glory Spoon with a chartreuse stripe. A huge coho buck slammed it, and what a fight on the short Amundson Outdoor Products Ltd. spinning twitching rod. Nothing after that, so I went to the beads. Had two hits and missed on the BnR Tackle Mottled Pink 14MM bead. So I decided to put on their Cerise colour bead 14MM, and this huge chum salmon took it. That was a surprise. Again, things slowed down, and I then went to the twitching jigs using the Amundson Outdoor Products Ltd. Kudos Bait Casting twitching rod and reel. That turned the rest of the day even more amazing. Hooked onto two cohos and lost, and two springs and landed the biggest, which was digitally weighing nearly 19 pounds. Randy put his twitching jig on and slammed into a bigger monster that was digitally weighed slightly over 20 pounds. We were very wet and cold, but happy for the exciting day.
As my friend Rick Passek often says, I absolutely love mail day! With my Prime Lure order finally arriving, I’m already experiencing fantastic results catching coho salmon and steelhead in our British Columbia rivers. Just wait until they encounter my adventures along the beaches of East Coast Vancouver Island. I invite you to check out my video, where you can witness the incredible success of catching spring and coho salmon off the sandy beaches of the East Coast Vancouver Island estuaries.
