I have a lot of feelings about the tales of Ba Sing Se 💔
Can someone give me recommendations for when the smart, know-it-all, good-at-everything perfectionist with parental issues and gifted kid burnout gets turned into a blushing and stammering mess?
plz reblog i need answers
Azula ruins Ozai's moment
Ozai: Just as the world will be reborn in fire, I shall be reborn as the supreme ruler of the world. *Three Fire Sages help Ozai put on his new royal garments* From this moment on, I will be known as ... *raises his arms in the air* the Phoenix King!
Azula: ... but excuse me, father, isn't the Phoenix a female?
Ozai:
Azula:
The fire sages:
Azula: I mean- never mind.

Posting this before I go to bed/regret making it public, but I’m sure y’all have seen a reverse-atla au of one sort or another, yknow, the ones where the water tribes attacked instead of the fire nation, and I have some Thoughts as an indigenous person. I am extremely on board with the power fantasy of trained-from-childhood water bender Katara + skilled warrior chieften-in-training Sokka, I really love their general aesthetic of being ice cold badasses, it’s everything to me. However. There’s a lot of colonial baggage to unpack in the connotations of this au.
It’s a cool concept!! It’s fun to imagine how different the characters would be in this alternate timeline!! But it also hedges the line of falling into racist stereotypes about aggressive/violent/savage natives. The list of ways colonials have detailed horror stories about innocent settlers being accosted by Indians is as long as the history of colonialism. The tried and true trope of “what if the heroes were the VILLAINS instead” is a good one, but things get murky when applied to a irl minority (does the BS term “reverse racism” ring any bells?).
I’m not saying these very cool aus shouldn’t be a thing at all, but I am saying people would do well to keep in mind these things. Also to stop lightening skin tones and drawing pointy, skinny noses. Arian features not welcome please and thank you 🙏🏽
Overall Thoughts on Secret Society of Second Born Royals.
Sam is so gay coded it hurts.
If January wasn’t evil then they would’ve had to make her gay for Sam. Those are the only two explanations for their onscreen energy. I don’t make the rules.
Also who names there kid January. Sorry if I offend anyone, but oml.
The actual gay character mentions a boyfriend once and it’s completely glossed over, but Disney still gets their “We’ve got gays!” Trophy.
Im serious this dude was in the hospital and you’re telling me the boyfriend didn’t visit him at all?
They have a whole conversation where he’s so touched that she remembered his gluten allergy, but no “Oh hey! Where’s your boyfriend by the way?” “Oh, I sent him to go get snacks so we could have our secret chat.” I’m tired of Disney’s “Blink and you’ll miss it” gays.
I’m super bummed that January was evil! I also feel like she could’ve just used the command power to make someone kill her brother, but I guess the plot demanded otherwise.
If they can take away powers and memories then why lock Edmund up with a collar that depletes his powers? Why not take them avatar the last air bender style?
They really tried to cram everything into 90 minutes didn’t they? The plot was so jumbled and weird because of the run time.
I also kind of feel like there was a lot of mental/physical abuse towards the kids. I get the idea of training hard to be the best, but sometimes it went a little too far for me personally.
As someone who struggles with auditory overload and hyper focusing as symptoms of my adhd it was a little hard for me to watch some of the scenes where Sam was upset because of her super senses being overloaded, but that’s more a me thing not an actual criticism.
I realize a lot of this has been negative, but I genuinely liked the movie and would watch it again. I will also be keeping my eye out for the second one that they teased.
The concept was nice and the overall tone was great. I love the actors they chose and despite it being rushed and jumbled I actually liked the plot. Excluding the two easily fixable conflicts of course.
Any media that uses Le Tigre is a winner in my books.
Friendship was beautifully portrayed in every way.
A couple of the powers were pretty creative! And the more cliche powers weren’t excessively so.
I’d have to rank this movie with 3/5 stars. Would be a 4/5 if not for the easily fixable conflicts that aren’t fixed or the lowkey queerbait, but that rating could change if the second on expands upon or fixes what was wrong with this one.
