“You , I always need you”

One fine morning Quinn realized she’s not waking up to a man beside her, her husband is not on the bed. Neither anywhere in their room. She scrolled through her phone to check her messages and emails, if there were any, and of course there were! A LOT actually. Mostly about her clients asking for updates on their case, advices, and some colleagues requesting to help with any of her trial cases. She ignored those. She went straight to her imessage to message her husband Mike.

“Hello Doctor Chang are you there? I think you might’ve forgot that you got a wife here back at your home. So I’m texting as a gentle reminder. Text me back ASAP. worried about you” —SENT.

Not even a minute after it was sent, her phone buzz a notification from him.

“Good Morning Atty. Fabray! I actually did not forget about my wife at all and I, in fact, did sneak in last night to steal some sleep but then I was paged and needed to come back at the hospital even before you wake up. Sorry for not texting sooner. Good luck on your hearing appointment today.”

Oh Quinn sweared she didn’t care about the hearing of one of her biggest clients until Mike brought it up and she was forced to get up of bed and started preparing for it.

An hour or so has passed, Quinn is done with all her morning rituals when an email arrived in her inbox informing her that today’s hearing was cancelled because the client just fired her for some unknown reason.

“Oh great after all of our preparations for this case, I was fired just like that” she said to herself frustrated and angered.

A text from Mike arrived once again.

“Hello Atty! Has the hearing started yet? Best of luck, not that you need it but still ! Text me back whenever you can. I love you”

A smile replaced her furrowed eyebrows when she read the text from her husband. ‘I miss him’ she thought to herself.

“Only the rough wind lingers around me so I always need you.”

“How many hours before you could actually come back home to me, Dr?”

“5 more hours :)”

“Too long!!!”

“Sorry, i’ll make it up to you, Atty. How’s the hearing going?”

“Meh it’s boring.”

“Hmm would still wanna know how’s it going but I gtg. I bet it’s going so well though!! Anyways, Break time’s over, i’ll ttyl :)”

“And what if isn’t?” she sent it not waiting for any response because she knows Mike is back to his job where phone is never allowed.

“Then next time it will. I still love you don’t worry too much about your cases you know it gets better”

“Hey, even if you don’t say anything, You’re the only one that understands me.”

With a slightly heavy heart she packed her stuff and drive to Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital where her husband is currently working. Her heads thoughtless all she ever wanted was a hug— a warm, very long comforting hug from her husband. The sun hasn’t shine for too long yet as the day was just starting but for Quinn it felt like it’s the end of the very draining day at work and she needs someone who she could vent out to. Someone who would just listen and understand her. She’s clearly sad because she felt all her efforts go to waste after she was suddenly fired.

“Today I’ll go to your arms too”

“hello is Dr. Mike Chang in here?” I asked the nurse at the lobby.

“Oh he is. Will you be having a follow up check up with him? May I have your name so I could search for your records, Ma’am?” the nurse politely responded.

“No, actually I am not. I am—“

“Hey nurse Lizelle I need the charts for the patient in room-“

“Oh great timing Dr. Chang someone’s looking out for you” pointing at Quinn “ and of course I’ll grab the charts of Riley from Room 2”

Quinn slowly turned his gaze on him and he’s just expecting a normal patient who might need his help. Surprise was very evident on his face when their eyes met.

“Quinn what are you doing here?” His voice sounded a bit excited but more worried.

“Are you hurt?” He questioned once more.

“No, but I need something from you.” sadness on her eyes.

“A hug if I may?” She extended both her arms asking for a hug.

And so the doctor immediately pulled her for a hug.

“Sorry nurse liezel for this little pda. A little favor can you page me when some urgent matters occurred? I’ll be back later.” He ordered to the nurse who’s smiling when she saw the two hugging.

I’m grateful to you, who greets me whenever I open the door.

“What happened my love?” Mike asked Quinn who’s now happily eating her lunch.

“Life sucks!” She yelled with her mouth full of salad. “But at least this salad is delicious!” She added.

“Okay…” Mike just let her be.

“I was fired…” her voice turned serious.

“It’s my first time to be fired. And by a very important client too” she felt a lump forming on her throat “It’s not a very good feeling. I’m sorry I had to bother you like this but-"

“You didn’t bother anyone here. Actually you came in perfect time.”

“What do you mean?”

“ I miss your voice.”

“Okay I guess this is from your lack of sleep but you’re not making any sense right now.”

“There’s this patient I talked to earlier. She’s turning 7 undergoing a chemotherapy and she wants to meet a fairy who would sing her ‘seven by taylor swift. Do you think you could do her some favor?”

How did Quinn get so happy in an instant? Easy, Mike knows her.

She dressed up as a fairy and surprised Riley, the kid who’s battling cancer and sang to her “Seven”

“Thank you Dr. Chang! I don’t know how did you find a fairy but it’s magical in here now!” The kid exclaimed in excitement

“You’re welcome Riley” Mike replied and gave her a hug.

The doctor and the ‘fairy’ left the room when Riley fell into slumber.

“Thank you Dr. Chang. I don’t know how you did it, but you definitely cheered me up today.”

“Out of all the things I’ve achieved today, making you happy was the most fulfilling.”

“I love you, Mike”

“You too, Atty!”

Quinn: Are you kidding me? You really came here *laughs*

M: what? that’s not funny! I was really worried

Q: i’m okayyyyyy! let’s go let’s just grab a dinner since we’re already here *smiles*

i have found my one true love!

today is the 14th of february! very unusual but as it turned out, it was a very busy day for everyone. i am not an exception so isn’t my boyfriend, mike. I was very upset as it was our first valentine.

7 p.m when i finally had the free time to check my phone. [ 5 unread messages] all from the same person.

i was so busy earlier too! a lot of people are dating here! i’m jealous haha

i’m at your lib’s lobby! i figured you’d be here by this time…

sudden guilt got in to my system, and i felt my eyes heating up. i was so touched by the messages i just read and the gestures he kept showing. he’s always been like this. always making time for me.

I went to our university’s library’s front desk right away to meet my boyfriend. When I reached the area i spotted his back right away. He’s wearing a black sweatshirt, jeans and sneakers, his usual. I hugged him from behind that startled him. He then turned to face me and put his arms around me.

“Hey!” He greeted. “ i miss you today!”

“I missed you too! Happy Valentines Day, babe” i said pouting my lips

“Haha happy valentines day, love!” He then withdraw from our hug and grab something from his pocket.

“So last minute gift, I saw this yesterday and was reminded by you. Sorry I was just really occupied in uni” he said while locking the necklace he got me on my neck

“But babe! I didn’t get you any! Not that I forgot! I’m just clueless what to get you. You already got everything”

“Exactly! I got everything i needed. I got you, that’s more than enough”

“But babeee!!”

“Love, don’t worry about it. I don’t care about gifts”

He finished up putting the necklace on me and i gave it a look

“Oh the lego obsession is back” I said making us both laugh

“But what is this? A door or something?”

“What!? Hahahah no it’s half of something” he confesses

“Half of what?”

“Half a heart” he said while taking out the necklace he’s wearing.

He stacked the two lego piece together and it really did make a heart.

“But why is it green?” I suddenly asked

“Because Red is overrated plus did you know Green meant sincerity? This “door” is to remind you how sincere I am” he said forming a little smirk on his lips.

He’s always detailed oriented. It’s one of the many things I’ve noticed and loved about him. He always makes sure that his messages are well conveyed.

“Sorry I’m late,” Quinn said, sliding into the booth that Mike had gotten them. “Trying to get out of that house on time is a nightmare,” she told him. Much like she expected, living with Puck was no cakewalk. His mother was overpowering, his sister was a whiner, and he was Puck. She was grateful to have a roof over her head, but she definitely turned to God a lot more to give her the strength not to put a pillow over their heads in their sleep. 

They had won sectionals, and this was huge. They had at least a few more months of Glee together, and she was holding onto that. She had rainchecked him for getting food, and this seemed like the perfect time to take him up on the offer. “I hope you weren’t waiting too long.”

Quinn’s POV

30 minutes in,Any minute now Mike is arriving to pick me up for our first date as a couple. “Couple” that’s a funny cute word! Somebody pinch me. Me and Mike couple? It still feels surreal. Getting deep into those thoughts I didn’t notice I was looking crazy smiling in front of the mirror,when a car honk burst my bubble i jumped in surprise.

I stepped out of my house and greet Mike as he waits outside his car.

“Looking good fabray” He greeted me, he’s a little too red. Is it because it’s hot I wonder

“You’re not so bad Chang!” I replied and gave him a kiss

He opened the car door for me and once i’m all set, he enters and drives the car

“Where are you taking me Mr.Gentleman?” I asked facing him

“Somewhere only I know” He giggled.

“Oh yeah? Will we watch the new spider man movie?”

“Hahahahah you know me too well” he laughed

He’s been meaning to watch that movie since forever but he said he wants to watch it with me. Pretty weird choice of movie if you ask me since it’s not a romantic one but I still find it cute because he really never watch it until I said yes to him. Yes to the movie and Yes to be his girlfriend.

When we arrived at the mall, we headed to the movie place, buy some snacks and enter the theaters. Mike and I are like little children excited to watch our favorite superhero. When we found our seats a running kid tripped and accidentally pour me his apple juice. It was so sticky and it poured all over my little dress. I was mad but i tried to keep my composure. Mike on the other hand was scolding his parents already, and his parents were very apologetic for what happened.

“Hey it’s okay it’s just a little accident” I told Mike who’s still giving the parents the stare

“No it’s not. Not only your dress got ruined,the kid’s got little scratches on his arm too”

I face the kid and found out that he really got some scratches on his arm. Mike is so damn attentive,I didn’t even notice that. Also very caring of him to not only think about me but the kid too.

When the kid and his family said their apology once again and left,we took our seats. I wiped some tissues to my dress to dry it off. Mike take off his jacket and gave it to me.

“No it’s okay. I’m not cold,thank you” I humbly rejected his offer

“Put it above your lap,under the dress so you wont feel it’s wet” He said

I accepted the jacket and did exactly what he told me.

“Thank you! You know what, that kid’s lucky it’s apple juice. I love apples so I let it go but god knows what I could do if it’s something else”

“Hahahah what about if it’s bacon?” He jokingly asked

“Damn why would a kid have bacons in theater and I don’t?”

We laughed and the lights turned off,sign that the movie is about to begin Mike noticed how I’m still so uncomfortable with my wet dress.

“Hey i’ll just go to the toilet for a sec, i’ll be back before you know it” he said and winked

“But the movie is about to begin!”

“Don’t worry i’ll be very quick! Don’t miss me too much” He said and left me a kiss on the cheeks

A good 15 minutes of the movie passed and Mike still hasn’t returned,I’m started to get worried and started to look around when he popped out and took a seat

“Hey where have you been? You missed a lot!” I asked,a little confused and concerned

“I had a hard time choosing between the dresses outside but I got you a little apple prints” He whispered,giggling a little

“You think you’re being funny huh?” I said a little too loud

Everyone’s eyes are on me and I was so embarrassed, I hid my face to Mike’s chest

“Great now we look like a couple having divorce” he joked wrapping his arms around me

We finished the movie with me still laying on his chest. It was then i realized it’s now my favorite place to chill, aside from my bed and couch obviously.

When the theaters’s lights turned on I checked out the dress that Mike got me. Surprisingly it’s a very cute dress with a little apple prints on it.

“Hahahahah really funny an apple dress really?”

“I was debating if I should get that one or the bacon one….”

“What!? The bacon one! Always get the bacon one” i interrupted him

“-but i chose that one because you’re the apple of my eye” he said jokingly rolling his eyes

“So you got me this for a punch line?” I giggled. “Okay that was cute! You’re very cute thank you”

“Oh why thank you Madam, you’re very beautiful yourself too” he said leaning in for a kiss.

Soft lips. God. He’s so gentle to me. I love this man.

“Thank you.” I told him

“For the kiss? Damn my pleasure miss fabray” he teased

“Hahahhaha no! I meant this, the dress, the movie, everything. It’s one of the best days of my life. You just treat me like….. a queen”

“I’m treating you the way you should be treated. And it’s the best feeling being with you so I should be the one thanking you”

My heart! Holy shit! My stomach! Butterflies. My mind went blank and my heart beats faster after he said those words.

He got up and helped me got up from my seat too.

“So is apple your favorite fruit?”

“Now that you buy me this dress,It sure is” i teased him. “No I think bananas are my favorite but I can’t live without apples.”

“What a weird way of saying i love bananas and apples equally” he teased

“No! Stop! I really love bananas but i have this weird habit that i got up in the middle of the night and I can’t go back to sleep unless i have a bite of apples”

“Are you serious?”

“Yes at first it was cute and all but sometimes it got in the way with my schedule, but don’t worry I asked my doctor about it and she said that’s just my body living up to the saying “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”” I said laughing

“But maybe when you sleep with this apple dress you’ll forget about your thing with apple in the middle of the night” he teased

“I guess we’ll find out” I said and head to the toilet to change my dress

I went out and Mike stared at me for a good minute before saying

“It wasn’t always bacon,i knew it. Apples suit you too” He said leaning in and gave me a kiss on my cheeks near my ear that tickled me

“Aw that tickles!”

“You look wonderful,babe” he whispered

“Oh stop let’s head home now?”

“Okay”

We decided to hang out at his place, and have dinner there. He insisted to cook for me. And not gonna lie it was the best chicken & pasta i’ve ever had. Is there something this man can’t do?

I was about to leave when we realized it was raining cats and dogs outside. I said i’ll just wait for it to stop, i wouldn’t want him to drive back at his home raining in the middle of the night by himself. But we waited and waited but the rain isn’t stopping and even got stronger the thunder is starting to scare me.

Mike brought out some extra pajamas for me. Hahaha this is so big for me but it’s comfortable and it has his smell on it so i’ll take it i thought to myself,blushing a little.

“Hahaha my pjs are so big on you! But you look good my love” Mike said when he saw me

“I know but I love it”

We headed to bed and no nothing happened okay? We really just slept.

I woke up around 2 am the rain had stopped already and Mike is sound asleep. I was about to go to the kitched to check if he got some apples when i saw the apples in the plate above the little table in his room. Beside it is a little note “Apples prepared with love! -Mike”

That’s when i got emotional over an apple! How could this man be so perfect?

I went to the toilet to pee and noticed his wet pajamas. It was then I realized he doesn’t have apples on his fridge and went outside in the middle of the night, when it was raining to buy me some apples.

I quickly went back to bed and gave him kisses.

“Hey kiss thief” he yelled

“Have i ever told you I love you”

“I love you way more” he said, gave me a kiss

Parting our lips for air. I snuggled into his arm and close my eyes.

Fuck I am madly in love with this man. And I know it’s too early for this but I can already picture out our future together. With our future kids. Growing old together,all that. It’s weird but if it’s not with Mike, I don’t want it.

I first read this as Mike/Finn for some reason and my immediate reaction was "eh I prefer Mike/Quinn but we'll consider it" lol so yes I need better reading comprehension.

I really like the idea of a Fabang friendship! It's actually my go-to random pairing I'd have loved to see more of. I very much agree with you Anon that I think they felt the same kind of academic pressure but I also think they share an inner drive to succeed in that. Which might or not be the byproduct of their upbringing and any less not being an option but it's shared nonetheless.

Once again I lament the lack of Mike Chang but I'd like to think he did share classes and some AP stuff with Quinn and was the person who didn't just check in on her while in Glee rehearsals but outside the club. He'd nudge her and ask how she was doing and she'd put on a brave face at first before realizing that Mike's a genuinely cool dude who won't judge or ridicule her. There could have been some quality bonding. And I feel like Quinn would appreciate how lowkey and dramaless Mike is compared to other ND members. I can see them studying in silence together and being at peace while with each other.

Thinking about the UHT's relationships with Mike is so amusing to me because the lack of canon allows my imagination to run wild. I think Quinn at first thought Mike was like every other typical jock and was overly sweet with a hint of condescension until she realized like you say, that he isn't loud and obnoxious like a lot of them.
