hello my dears... two creatures in one photo today: a leaf beetle with a springtail clinging on to its bottom leg
do you see it? look very closely at the bottom left of the photo... theres a tiny orange-green lump stuck to the leg of the beetle. the leaf beetle is likely (Philopona mouhoti) a pretty and somewhat uncommon species
mega zoom in on the very tiny springtail! heres the clearest photo i could get of this critter that was less than a millimeter in size... these fellas are incredibly hard for me to spot and i only noticed this one sticking out on the leg of the leaf beetle upon very careful inspection
Day 209: Flea beetle
This guy is soooooo tiny I had to get a zoomed in photo to even figure out what they were. And then when I zoomed in I saw them cleaning their arm like a kitty :3
Credit to my wife @breadlovinggay for finding this creature irl. On her arm lol

THROWBACK THURSDAY Blue flea beetle (Macrohaltica sp?), outside Quito, Ecuador. January 2008.
Back when I had a decent macro lens.
Flea beetles receive their moniker for the enlarged femora on their hind legs, which enable them to leap great distances. Many flea beetles prefer this strategy, and falling from the leaves they feed on, rather than flight in the presence of predators. Although not social, many leaf beetles tend to feed gregariously, and some can become serious crop pests in Central America. Depending on which species of beetle this one is, the larvae may feed on the roots while the adults feed on leaves.
hello my dears... i love the colour variation in leaf beetles... so heres a somewhat uncommon leaf beetle (Argopistoides septempunctata) with an interesting pattern
leaf beetle with a cow like pattern. cute eyes. shot on a handkerchief
rather uncommonly spotted but you can find multiple in areas where they are feeding. pretty leaf beetle and it seems many havent heard of them
Ugh. The Insect Identification site is garbage.
