@friendsrequest i think this is a hate crime
EDIT TO ADD: this was drawn by my lovely friend @cviperfan
responding to an old post but i think natalie dormer was miscast but most seem to love her margaery
I definitely agree that she doesn't fit book margaery at all but i think that's because a) d&d didn't get book margaery at all either and b) it's once again this issue of aging up the characters way too much.
they just kinda play her straight as a femme fatale when margaery is more an interrogation of that, and the way someone like her would realistically navigate a shitty arranged marriage while also exploring how and why margaery was given the space to grow as a politician whereas cersei is actively hindered in any growth by her own father. whereas olenna in the show is actually the head of the family despite her son being very much alive and her husband very much dead, so olenna can just openly negotiate with tywin even though the reality is that in the books it's mace doing these negotiations and olenna is forced to move behind the scenes (possibly along with alerie, another woman, or garlan, a second son, etc). so margaery as well gets rewritten to be drastically different - she is essentially the sort of woman that cersei believes margaery is, the sort of woman that cersei thinks she herself is (calculating, political, defaulting to sex as a weapon instead of like, anything else).
i think natalie dormer was a good choice for show margaery because of how different she is, but natalie dormer is just. too damn old to be margaery and thus you lose a lot of the effect of her character, where margaery is a child bridde being juggled between whatever men her father wants her to be with, and navigates this very difficult situation because she has a host of family members who actually care about her wellbeing and happiness.
I can tell you as someone who has been watching rwby since v1 premiered, that Barb and Arryn have definitely not been chill about bumbleby since the beginning. I remember watching that very first rwby interview when it came out and being ahocked (in a good way) bc at the time I though the show was teasing black sun but here arryn and barb were just like "i think Blake and Yang would work super well together in a romantic relationship actually." And they never stopped since.
hell yeah. i've seen that interview and i've always been amazed by how early it happens. they've been so loud since then, and they already started out so loud lmao. good for them! good for us!
holster: if you ever need relationship advice, come to me. i’m kind of the expert of dating someone on the team, you know?
ransom: you hooked up with jack a week after meeting him and then it took 3 full years of hating each other to even talk about it. lardo and i had an adult conversation when we realized we liked each other and now i have a date friday night. we are not the same
