#alien human interaction

Since the contact with humans, many cultures have added english/human words to their vocabulary. This is because of how their language works, constantly shifting and updating with every single sound they discover, so when introduced to a new concept due to a people, they will often just end up using the human word for it. Examples include:

Cha’ir’s clan using the human word book after being Introduced to the concept while being told about colonizers

Generation cycle 13 ; generation 6 kids use many humans words as slang, such as dude, bro, man, water fountain, tree and others, forming their own dialect and accents

The next clan over recently discovered paper like materials, which they call “shape leaves”

The Q’o’ahrhi tribe of the black mountains have started wearing and making human clothes, pioneering the discovery of sowing and the trade of fabrics, using the human terms fabric, tissue, body leaves, and many more

However, some individuals use slang that doesn’t really translate into human words

Generation cycle 2 ; cycle 3, the elders, call humans “chest leg lackers” because we don’t have front legs and only have back legs and arms

They generally call our travel ships “sky boats”

When first introduced to a phone Cha’ir called it something along the lines of “light spot talk rectangle” which is honestly on the spot

They share soft smiles and gentle looks from across the room at first. Then they bond over the complexities of interspecies families and child-raising over hot drinks like coffee and various kinds of tea. Without realizing it, they sit next to each other in the meetings. The alien's second set of tendrils wrap around the human's hand and arm. They have playdates with their children, and laugh as the two invent their own secret language, a combination of all the cosmic languages they know, and some they just made up.

One day, the two children run up to their parents. The human child is holding a ring made of grass and twigs. The alien child, a crown of wildflowers.

"Let's play wedding!" The human child says. "We'll read the books and you can get married!"

"It'll be official for once!" The alien child says.

The two parents are stunned. The alien parent takes the ring, and looks at the human parent.

"Would you like to?" They ask, their eyes full of hope. "Be my mate?"

The human parent takes the flower crown, the integral part of the culture around bondings in the alien's culture.

"I would love to," they say.

Have you ever thought about how the aliens would react to the olympics.

Alien: wait, you spend millions on sport just to see who is the best.

Human: dude. It's also quite entertaining to watch them.

Alien: you humans enjoy rivalry so much that you find such insane ways to show it. I do not understand. Many of those humans should need intensive medical care from what they were doing.

Human: you still have not learnt your lesson in not underestimating humans when it comes to competition. And do you know how fun it's to simple watch people be good at something.

Now combining the two of them...

“Quirrnick, stop shaking so much.” Stephan told the alien in xir LifeSaverTM pod, adjusting his grip on the egg-like structure yet again to stabilise the pod. “I won’t leave you to fend for yourself, you won’t leave the pond for anything, and nothing will enter the pod because the darn thing is basically fortified against everything!”

Quirrnick tried to limit xir movements, nervously scanning their surroundings with xir eyes and the (apparently not Deathworld-compatible) sensors of the LifeSaver. Xe was aware that xir human companion could claim familiarity with their surroundings (his ‘hometown’ being miles away from their current location - which, to him, was walking distance as it turned out), but xir knowledge of the Earth fauna still made xem afraid for his life. There were not that many predators in the area, according to Stephan, but xe did a little independent research (the LifeSaver had a built in database about the dangers of the human home planet) and was less than impressed by xir companions attempt to hide things from xem.

Then again, humans were known to downplay things to hide their own fears - xe thought Stephan might have been trying to reassure them both with his downplay of the local fauna.

Xe was not reassured.

“But what of the Eotyrannus, aren’t they local?” Xe squeaked out, one half of xir afraid of breaking the man’s confidence, but the other half needing to hear his answer to the (potential) treat. Grayish-green eyes blinked at xer slowly, then the human shook his head in what seemed to be amusement, and went back to dragging the hovering pod towards civilisation.

Of course one of the humans overhears. Or maybe someone wasn’t in on the joke and asked if it was true. Either way, this kind of fiction gets banned pretty early. Because if you give the humans ideas, you ARE going to be held responsible when they try it. And make no mistakes.

Imagine a  Guvnuragnaguvendrugun running around after the kid because oh my star, whose child is this where are the humans why did they leave this tiny one here no don’t try to eat me NO DON’T PUT THAT IN YOUR MOUT oh sweet space, ew, I’m not touching that.

(The parents had a date night and thought the kid was asleep. ‘Twas but a nap! Mwahahaha)

Anyway, back to the misadventures of the  Guvnuragnaguvendrugun, let’s call them Sagnagvionivn, they managed to pick the kid up, mainly because the kid was mesmerised by the bioluminescent patches and their colourchanges, so now they are on their way to the med bay, because no matter whose child, it needs to be checked first after attempting to chew that tablet, and them, so... oh no, it’s squirming nonono, ah, it got away!

NOOOOOOOOO!

You see, being friends with a lifeform as unconsciously dangerous as humans (who seem to emit a trouble-specific gravitational pull), while desirable for various reasons, can result in... unforeseen circumstances. 

As such, there is an intergalactic foundation called Friends of Humans Disaster Control (or jokingly Our Friend HDC) who help with unforeseen and human-specific ‘happenings’ and provide emergency kits, therapists, help people of all planets get in touch with doctors and help with evacuations if needed. They also provide a yearly (or if asked, quarterly) sum of money for registered human-friendlies, as a form of hazard bonus, if you will.

The term for the registered friends who receive monetary help, when translated into English is “friend with benefits”.

An endless supply of yarn.

The aliens are at first confused when they find Dani sitting cross-legged on the floor with two waving sticks and a long, long thread coming out of the factory of the ship, then get surprised and a little excited when they find out ne can make clothing and toys and baskets and whatnot out of it, but in the long run...

Well. The crew is fluent in human-swearing and can tell the difference between I-lost-count-somewhere swearnig and I-fucking-dropped-a-stich swearnig, and throughly annoyed that Dani just can’t seem to be pryed from the machine (except for when ne has work, but meals and showers get forgotten and GET YOURSELF TAKEN CARE OF DANI, YOU LOST WEIGHT AND SMELL!!!) also they consider selling some of the stuff because it starts to take over the whole ship.

It’s resolved by limiting nir allotted supply of materials, and a firm talk-to by an elder human via vid-feed (a ‘Grandma’ who, the crew decide, must be both judge and a kind of therapist in human culture, and not a lifeform to be crossed) so all is well in the end.
