In Alien Frontiers (2-4 players) you’re racing to colonize a newly discovered world. Dice are “ships” and each round you roll and place them on the board, using them to gather resources, turn resources into colonies, and build get more dice.Â
Your dice aren’t removed from the board until it’s your turn again, so you can strategically take spots to block other players. As you place colonies on the planet, you can gain powers that increase the benefits of future actions. Tech cards also give you unique abilities that you can either activate each round or discard for a more powerful, one-time use. With the Factions expansion, each player will have a unique board. There’s a lot of variety in this game. Managing your dice and resources as well as timing when and where you place them is super important.
There’s a lot to like about this game. The art has a great retro-sci fi look. The dice are chunky and colorful and very satisfying to roll. The little colonies looks like capsule toys! It melds worker placement with area control in a really fun theme. I highly recommend it, espeically with expansions. Check it out!
