12. things you said when you thought i was asleep for sciles, please!
Thereâs a phone vibrating loudly against the nightstand. Not Scottâs phone, because Scottâs phone is dead in the pocket of his jeans on the floor. Someoneâs phone -- last nightâs Someone, itâs his phone.
Scott doesnât open his eyes, hoping it stops so he can go back to sleep.Â
Next to Scott, thereâs a sharp inhale, bed moving as last nightâs Someone grabs the phone and curses. Stiles, thatâs his name. Stiles, âlike Harry Styles, but not famous and not that good looking.âÂ
In Scottâs opinion, Stiles is way hotter than Harry, so he said as much. Stiles bought him a drink for that. Several, actually. Scottâs headache is a testament to the many drinks Stiles bought him for the compliment.Â
Stiles gets up carefully, which means he probably thinks Scottâs asleep. Scott keeps his breathing steady, heâd rather not be noticeably awake if Stiles is going to grab his clothes and sneak out.Â
Stiles does not do that. Thereâs a pause of silence, a sigh, and then heâs pulling the door shut behind him until it creaks. Scott opens his eyes a teeny tiny amount; all he can see through the crack in the door is the hallway wall, but Stilesâ clothes are definitely still on the floor.Â
âWhat do you want?â Scott hears Stiles whisper. Then, âObviously I didnât come home last night --â Another pause, another sigh. âProfessor Cruise will live one day with my genius repartee, I promise.âÂ
Thereâs a longer pause this time. When he answers, it sounds like Stiles is smiling. âLyds, you have no idea. Heâs like, perfect. I literally only say that about deep fried Twinkies, but heâs -- no, shut up, heâs not a twink... I donât think --â
Scott has to press his smile into the pillow to keep himself from laughing out loud.Â
âIâm not coming home until Iâve fully seduced him -- okay, youâre right, I did do that already.â Stilesâ voice is almost at a normal pitch now, like heâs too distracted to keep whispering. âYeah, yeah -- Iâm not coming home until Iâve fully romanced him.â
This time Scott canât help it this time, he laughs out loud.Â
âShit!â he hears from the hall. âI gotta -- Bye!â
Thereâs a moment of silence. Scott prompts himself up on his elbow, unable to keep the grin off his face as Stilesâ head pokes into view. His hair looks exactly as over-gelled as it did last night, but there are considerably more bruises on his neck and chest than when Scott met him.Â
Scott has never met anyone as into getting hickeys as Scott is into giving them, but here they are; bruises all over Stilesâ pale skin, and a little flare of possessiveness in Scottâs chest.
âDid I, uh, wake you?â Stiles asks sheepishly, shuffling back inside the room. Scott didnât notice last night, but his boxers have ducks on them. Hot and charming, Scottâs really onto something with this one.
âYeah, itâs all good though,â Scott says, watching in amusement as Stiles fidgets with his phone, long fingers twirling it over and over until he gestures towards his clothes.
âI should -- Should I go?â
âI thought you were going to romance me.â Scott schools his face into his best pout, barely able to hold it when Stilesâ face brightens with delight.Â
âI was --â he says, grinning. âI mean, I am. If you want me to.â
âI do.â Scott pats the empty space Stiles left next to him. âBut like, after we have a nap.â
âNaps are good, I like naps.â Stiles tosses his phone towards his clothes and gets back into bed with all the grace of a baby deer. When he lays down, heâs a little winded, cheeks pink.Â
âAnd I like you,â he announces, blushing even harder.Â
Scott laughs again, kissing the blunt tip of Stileâs nose. Stiles watches, eyes crossed when Scott pulls back. âAnd I like you,â Scott says.

18: things you said when you were scared, for skittles if you would like? <3 <3
blood/wound mention, discussion of death, no actual death
âIf you die, I want your PS4,â Stiles says.Â
All Scott can see is the pale of his neck and the dark back of his head. Heâs twisted away from Scott, not looking at the wound in Scottâs side as he heals it. For a Mage, Stiles is bizarrely squeamish.Â
Scott gets it, though. Thereâs warm blood darkening his top, painting Stilesâ fingers dark red. The sunset orange of his magic lights it all up, an iridescent glow. Gory. Weird.
âYou bought me that,â Scott says, trying to ignore the way his whole torso feels like itâs on fire. Itâs hard to gauge the difference between the pain from the gouge and the pain from Stiles stitching him back together. It all feels terrible, making him sick to his stomach and dizzy with adrenaline.Â
âAnd if you die, I want it,â Stiles grunts, pressing down harder, like itâll make Scott heal faster. Scott wheezes. âShit, sorry -- oh, gross.âÂ
Stiles is looking back at Scott now, making a face at the wound. His eyes soften when he meets Scottâs gaze, worry twisting tightly at the corners of his mouth.
âYou looking fucking terrible,â Stiles says. His words sound sticky. Anxious.
âI feel fucking terrible,â Scott says, laughing. Thereâs blood in his mouth, but he doesnât think any of it is new. Mostly from the fight earlier -- those overpowered wolves at the edge of his territory.
âThat was pretty bad,â Stiles says, heart pounding harder. The brightness of his magic dims and flickers, like heâs losing concentration.Â
Scott lays his hand over Stilesâ, gentle. âBut itâs over,â he says, keeping his voice soft. Â
âYou have a gaping hole in your side,â Stiles says, edge of his voice sharp with anger and fear even as the heat of his magic intensifies over Scottâs side. âItâs not over until itâs healed.â
âThatâs why I have you,â Scott says, grinning a bit.Â
âThereâs blood in your mouth.â Stiles drops his head and twists away again, but Scott catches the wobble of his chin. âAnd on your shirt. And on my hands.â
âAnd on the floor, and on --âÂ
Stiles whips back around to glare at Scott.
âIâll be fine,â Scott reassures him, after flashing a shit-eating grin. He feels better than he did when they first got back to the house, at least. âThereâs definitely a smaller chance of death now. It gets even smaller the more you charge me up.â
âYouâre not funny,â Stiles says. Itâs hard to tell with the way Stilesâ heart is pounding -- everything goes into overdrive when the magic is happening, Scott can never get a read -- but Scott can see the ghost of a smile tugging at the corner of Stilesâ lips, so he thinks thatâs mostly a lie.Â
hi can u make me a skittles with #16 pretty please? <3<3<3
things you said with no space between us
âI remember this being bigger,â Scott says, pulling his knees in so Stiles can crawl in after him
âWell, we were like 8 the last time we tried to fit in here,â Stiles says, practically in Scottâs lap. His feet stick out too far, they definitely canât close the door behind them.Â
The smell of dust is so thick, it clings to Scottâs nose and coats his throat, overwhelming him. Heâs definitely not focusing on the fact that he can hear two spiders on webs up above them.
Stilesâ grandmaâs house was always a playground for them. Summers spent exploring the three stories, and the attic, and all the crawl spaces little boys could fit into.Â
This was one of their favorites, a little nook in the third guest room on the second floor. A weird cupboard set into the far side of the closet with a latch that opens both ways.Â
Theyâd hide there in the middle of thunderstorms, somehow safer in the dark next to each other. A place to go when his grandma hosted parties and there were too many people. Somewhere to be found when one of them was upset, hiding out until the door opened and the other climbed in for a cuddle.Â
A place for them to meet in the middle of the night when grandma decided they needed to sleep in separate rooms, with their own beds.Â
Now itâs far too small for one of them, let alone two. Scott can hear the way Stilesâ heart is pounding. If nostalgia had a smell, it would smell like cobwebs and the sweetness that clings to Stiles when he sighs, relaxing back into Scottâs chest.Â
Scott presses the curve of his smile to Stilesâ shoulder. âRemember our first kiss?â
One of those days where they were hiding out, too overwhelmed by the adults and bored to death of the other kids. Scott was more than content in his cubby with Stiles, realized that the way his heart was pounding probably meant something.
âDo you remember lunging at my face with your mouth and giving me a fucking heart attack?â Stiles asks sharply, but he wants to laugh, Scott can hear it in the brightness of his words. âI hit my head on the doorframe and got a welt the size of a baseball.â
âI kissed it better,â Scott pouts. He did. âSpent the next 12 years kissing everything better.â
âYou did,â Stiles agrees, smacking a sloppy kiss against the arm that Scott has around him. âNow letâs get out of here before I get tetanus or something. Can you believe people actually let us in here when we were kids?â
âIâm a werewolf now,â Scott reassures him, pushing at Stilesâ hips so he climbs out. âIf worst comes to worst, Iâll just turn you and save you from the evil bacterial infections.â
âMy hero,â Stiles simpers, watching with a fond expression as Scott struggles to his feet.Â
âGetting up used to be easier,â Scott says, once heâs finally vertical. Becoming a werewolf did not lend him the grace he thinks it should have, but he gets by.Â
Unless heâs getting up out of cupboards, apparently.
âMy aging hero,â Stiles amends, and cackles his way out of the room when Scott growls at him.Â
Alex... I just had a thought. All the best ships (the âIâve known you forever and at some point realized Iâm in love with youâ variety) fit perfectly with that song that goes âIâve been afraid of changing âcause I built my life around youâ and now Iâm thinking about Sciles and crying. (I get the feeling youâre gonna think Nessie which is also very valid)
âSince when do you listen to Stevie Nicks?â Stiles asks, snatching Scottâs iPod out of his hand with a flourish. Scott doesnât even pretend to scramble for it. He heard Stiles coming and didnât bother putting it away, even though he figured Stiles would be curious.
âIs that who this is?â Scott asks, with a laugh. He doesnât listen to Stevie Nicks, Stiles is right.Â
âYeah, Stevie Nicks of the Fleetwood Mac variety,â Stiles agrees, tossing Scottâs iPod back to him casually. If Scott wasnât a werewolf it would have dropped right onto the metal bleacher bench and broke, but luckily Scott is a werewolf.Â
He plucks it out of the air and pops out one of his earbuds â a habit left over from being human; it always seems rude when he doesnât.Â
âI donât know what that means,â he admits. The song replays. Itâs been on repeat for a solid half hour. Scott might be obsessing. Just a little. âI donât think I know any other Fleetwood Mac songs.â
âIâd say itâs heresy, but I donât think I do either.â Stiles shrugs. Theyâre close enough that Scott feels the movement along his side. It makes his breath pull up short, heart jumping in a way heâs just getting used to.Â
âI know this one, though,â Stiles says, jerking his chin towards Scottâs iPod. âKinda moody.â
Scottâs stomach goes tight, cheeks flushing for no reason. He wishes Stiles didnât know the song. Wishes heâd put it away when he heard Stiles coming. It feels personal now thatâs Scott listened to it obsessively and let it wear down an aching groove in him.Â
When he looks at Stiles, Stiles isnât looking at him. âI feel kinda moody,â he says, laughing to alleviate the tension thatâs starting to pull his shoulders tight.Â
âPost-grad existential crisis,â Stiles replies, nodding. He looks up at Scott finally. His eyes are brown and warm and understanding, and openly sad in a way Scott isnât used to.Â
âY-yeah,â Scott says, blinking. Stiles laughs at him, reaching for the earbud thatâs hanging against Scottâs chest so he can listen along. Scottâs finger slides along the buttons without really thinking about it, hitting the back button to replay the song again.Â
Stiles smiles at him softly, something sweet and knowing, before he looks back out over the lacrosse field and leans into Scottâs side heavily. He sings along, voice scratchy and off-key and lovely, âI took my love, I took it down.â

Actually, Hoechlin said that Derek is living on a ranch somewhere alone because he and Braeden broke up. That's your happy ending. Have fun with that you abuse-shipping piece of cuntlint.
It isnât totally unexpected when Derek comes home and Braedenâs sitting in her pick up truck outside the main house, idling with the A/C on and the windows rolled down. What surprises him is that she isnât inside the house. God knows she can pick any lock, open any safe. Hell, thereâs a false rock by the porch swing, she could have found the actual key.Â
She spots him in the side mirror, but she waits until heâs closer to get out. She steps off the truck, all legs â knee high boots, tight dark jeans that hug her thighs. Itâs too close to summer for the leather jacket sheâs wearing, but sheâs barely sweating. Glistening, really, sun on her dark skin, making her shine. She smells like leather, and Dove body wash, and the Hoppeâs No. 9 lubricating oil she uses on her guns.Â
He canât see her eyes, hidden by her aviators, but he knows sheâs looking at him the same way heâs looking at her.Â
Thereâs an ache deep in his chest, so sharp he can barely breathe around it, so he doesnât say anything, just tips his head towards the house and leads her in. Usually he would kick his boots off at the door, but he doesnât want to pause, wants to see her as soon as she takes off those damn sunglasses.Â
When she does, her eyes are soft as ever. Itâs been months and sheâs still so gorgeous it leaves him breathless.
âHey,â he finally gets out, tongue thick. He wants to ask how she knew where he was, how she found him, if Scott told her, but what he asks is, âWhatâre you doing here?â
âMissed you,â she says, with a shrug. As if admitting that kind of thing is easy. âIâm done in Beacon Hills, I ââ she purses her mouth; Derek hears her heart jump. âI wanted to see you.â
Derek stills, his own pulse loud in his ears. Thereâs so much he wants to say:
Sorry for not being willing to go back to Beacon Hills, for letting her go alone. Sorry for being afraid of everything they had, scared of what they meant to each other, terrified of the permanence of how much he loved her.Â
Sorry for saying goodbye.Â
âIâm glad,â is what he settles on. She looks at him with wide eyes, corners of her mouth tugging up like she wants to grin. âItâs been⌠lonely.â
âWell, you are alone,â she says, arching an eyebrow. Sheâs smiling now, because she knows him and she knows he canât stay away from her â never could.Â
âNot anymore,â he says, reaching out to catch her wrist and pull her in. Her pulse is hummingbird light under his fingers. Sheâs soft and warm against him. God, he missed her so much. âSorry Iâm an idiot,â he says.
She pushes up on his toes and kisses him firmly. âWeâve got time to work on it, right?â she asks, when she pulls away. He tightens his grip so she doesnât go far; now itâs his turn to grin, chest bursting with contentment.Â
uhm, hm. I actually donât like writing Isaac. mostly because I donât have a good grasp on him as a character, so I never feel like I do him justice. heâs popped up a couple times in fic, and Iâm just like, god I hope he doesnât suck omg.Â
share a scene of a story that you havenât published yet
I feel like Iâma get yelled at because this is something I wonât ever finish, but I canât share what Iâm actually working on because itâs part of the ongoing 1D Big Bang. so hereâs 2.7k of Sciles/Scerek, pre-McHaleinski band AU:
âScott?â
His name, incredulous. Scott winces, eyes skittering back to the sleeping figure on the bed. Still asleep, unmoving. Itâs a relief, almost. Despite how much he wants to slink back in the room and close the door on the hallway, he doesnât. Itâs not his hotel room and thereâs only four hours until the wake up call. Nothing worse than getting caught in a room thatâs not his, or any of the othersâ.
Except this, this is probably worse, Scott thinks, once he closes the door softly, making sure it clicks into place. The light from the key reader is red. Itâs awful. He turns, plastering a shy, self-deprecating smile on his face.
The look on Stilesâ face is downright wounded. Scott feels ashamed immediately, face flaring hot and stomach tangling in knots. He doesnât know why â he didnât, technically, do anything wrong, but the way Stilesâ eyes narrow makes Scott feel like he has.
He knows how he looks â hair tussled, swollen lips, fucked out. There are bruises on his neck that Ericaâs going to have to work to cover up. He didnât bother pulling on his shirt because they have the whole floor to themselves and, well, itâs 3AM. Thereâs a scatter of hickies on his chest, the imprint of fingers on his hips. If he turned his back, Stiles would see the deep scratches.
He pulls his shirt on, tugging it down to cover up the evidence, watching as Stiles drags his eyes away from Scottâs body.
âStiles,â he says, voice a little slow, dripping like syrup, still buzzed off the last blunt he passed to Derek after they fucked, giggling into each otherâs mouths as they kisses between hits, smoke fogging up the room around them. âWhatâre you doing up?â
Itâs a nonsensical question, really. Itâs Stiles. Heâs wearing black jeans, so tight they look painted on, and a pair of red Docs that match his red button up. Itâs actually Scottâs shirt, but it looks better on Stiles, rolled up past his elbows, showing all the bright ink of his tattoos. Thereâs black around his eyes, glitter on his cheekbones, too much product in his hair. He probably got back from a party or the club or something.
âI was gunna get Derek,â Stiles says, slowly. Itâs so frosty, Scott wants to shiver. âBut I guess Iâll grab Isaac.â
They stare at each other. Scottâs tempted to be a smart ass and smirk, tell Stiles that Derek wonât move until the wake up call â stoned and dicked out of his brain â but he doesnât, he rearranges his features into a curious expression.
âWhere are you going?â Scott asks. Not that heâs going to ask to tag along. Itâs been 20 hours since he slept. Up too early for interviews, then sound check and the show â sold out, adrenaline like a hurricane moving him along, the blitz of flashing lights and screaming. Then Derekâs hotel room, pinning him down and⌠well.
âDennyâs,â Stiles says, shortly, eyes fixed firmly somewhere behind Scott, just over his shoulder. Stiles isnât looking him in the eye. âDerek likes drunk breakfast.â
âYeah,â Scott agrees. Stiles is between Scott and the door to his hotel room. He needs a nap. âIâm gunna ââ Scott gestures past Stiles, and Stiles grunts, taking a dramatic step to the side. Scottâs heart is pounding hard in his chest and he has no idea why.
(Well, maybe he does because theyâve always walked the razor sharp edge of something. The flirtatious looks, the touching â itâs always been that way. Scott doesnât remember a time when there wasnât this tension between them. Neither of them has ever done anything about it, and Scott isnât going to say no when someone wants him in their bed just in case Stiles might want to fuck at some point.)
Scott tries to slide by, but despite the show he made of it, Stiles is more or less deadcenter in the hallway, making Scott angle sideways to get past him. Before he can make it, Stilesâ arm shoots out, quick, grip a little too tight.
It barely registers. They finally meet each otherâs eyes and Stiles is looking at him with his big bambi eyes, whiskey brown and a hundred times larger than usual with mascara painting his lashes. His bottom lip is between his teeth, pale where they dig in. Scott can smell alcohol and sweat and cigarette smoke.
âDerek?â Stiles asks. Scott can tell heâs trying to be flippant, but he misses his mark, voice going unsteady. Scott doesnât want to think about what that means.Â
âYeah,â Scott says, with a loose shrug, shaking Stilesâ hand off. Stiles lets it falls, frowns at Scott, forehead puckering. The expression on his face is so contemplative, itâs almost funny.
âSeriously?â Stiles asks, face getting a little sharp. Thereâs this look he gets, when he wants to be mean, itâs all hard and edgy and usually Scott thinks itâs funny, but right now itâs directed at him. Scott canât calm the thundering of his heart. âThat asshole?â
âHey!â Scott protests, mouth twisting down, annoyed.
âHeâs a dick, Scott,â Stiles snaps, voice low but ringing in Scottâs ears, harsh. âHow the fuck did he get you in bed?â
Scott hates that â hates that Stiles thinks⌠Scott doesnât even know. Stiles thinks that he needs to build up to sex with dates and emotions, that heâs too romantic for anything else, that heâs fragile and needs to be taken care of â the idea of Scott having casual sex blows his mind.
âHe asked,â Scott snaps, tone brimming with bitterness, glaring at Stiles. Not that it will do any good, because Stiles is an idiot.
(The first time, it actually went like this:
They got permission to go out to a club during the first leg of the tour. The whole crew went out, riding the high of a near perfect show. Isaac and the twins were on detail, so Derek got a night off and â
Scottâs kind of always had this thing. The broad chest, the biceps, the effortless way Derek intimidates people. He daydreamed about the scrape of Derekâs stubble on the insides of his thighs, Derek picking him up and pinning him to the wall and fucking his brains out.
So, Scott bought him a drink and asked him to dance, led him around with his fingers on the soft inside of Derekâs elbow, looking up at Derek through his eyelashes, biting his lip, trying so damn hard, flushed with tequila and feeling brave.
Derek said: âIs it true? You and Stiles?â
âWhat?â Scott asked, standing on his tip toes so Derekâs mouth was next to his ear, gripping his shoulders. Derek laughed against him, big chest rumbling. Scott had been half hard all night.
âYou and Stiles? Are you fucking?â
Scott laughed out loud, because it was easier. The answer to that question was and is always no, so Derek dragged him back to his hotel room in fits of laughter, face flushed from so many vodka Redbulls, mouth hot and hands demanding.)
âNight Stiles,â Scott says, roughly, wishing he had a smoke on him. The only time he smokes is when heâs drinking with Stiles, and heâs not about to ask even though he can see the outline of Stilesâ pack of Newports in his pocket.
âHow long?â Stiles asks, hand coming up again, hovering without actually touching. Scott stares down at his hand so he doesnât have to look at Stilesâ face, the wolf inked there. Itâs new. Stiles has always been scared to get tattoos on his hands, but he bit the bullet and got a couple of percs off Erica. Itâs wild looking, tongue hanging out of its mouth eagerly, grey and white and red, old school.
âSince Pasadena,â Scott admits, flushing.
A hurt look passes over Stiles face. He looks like he wants to ask more questions, and Scott already knows, why didnât you tell me? is at the top of the list. Itâs hard to explain to Stiles that Scott wants something all for himself, something that Stiles isnât involved in, something he can be greedy about.
Theyâre all so tangled together, the band, but Scott and Stiles especially, ever since their sandbox days.
(Thereâs a photo his mom released at the very start of their career, when they were doing small venue tours, doing the whole shitty white van thing. Itâs Scott and Stiles at the beach when they were young, like five. Stiles has Scott in a headlock, rubbing sand in his hair, but theyâre both laughing.
That pictures pops up in every article about them. How close they are. How close theyâve been there whole lives. Always together. Sharing everything.)
The disappointed look on Stiles face only hangs around for a few seconds before he just looks pissed, cheeks going pink, clenching his jaw. For a second, Scott thinks Stiles is going to yell at him, but he glares and steps away, shaking out his hand like heâs getting rid of the desire to take a swing at Scott.
âNight, Scott,â he says, turning away, headed back to his own room instead of past Derekâs to grab Isaac. Disappointment sinks into Scottâs veins, thinking that goodnight sounded like a sincere fuck you.
âThe fuck happened to you?â Erica asks, jerking his chin sideways. The bruise on his neck is worse than he thought it was last night, red and purple and terrible. Scott feels his face get hot, batting her hand away.
âMauled by a bear,â Liam says, sinking into the chair next to Scott.
âAttacked by Hoover,â Malia says, reaching over Scottâs shoulder to flick his ear. He flinches away, flipping her off.
âGot laid,â Lydia says, in a bored voice. Sheâs already done up, for the most part. Perfect hair and makeup, leaning into the mirror to pat at her lipstick even though it doesnât need to be touched up.
Stiles slinks in behind her, a little black raincloud. Derek and Isaac come in behind him, sinking into the couches.
âThe only question is who,â Lydia says, eyes sliding to his. Scott very deliberately catches her gaze and doesnât look anywhere else. Not at Stiles. Not at Derek. âThere wasnât anyone in town ââ
âLydia, chill,â Stiles says, with a laugh that doesnât sound forced. Scott holds himself still while Stiles drapes himself over Scottâs shoulders, pressing a wet kiss to his cheek. âLet Scotty baby live.â
Scotty baby. Scott flushes to his hair, watching himself go red in the mirror.
(Stiles calls him Scotty baby in a voice as thick as molasses, sweet like honey. Itâs what he calls Scott when theyâre drunk, wrapped around each other on the roof, talking about everything. Itâs what he calls Scott when Scott misses home so badly he has to sleep in Stilesâ bed, curled against his side. Itâs what called Scott when they secured the deal with their label, millions of dollars, chart topping â âwe did it, Scotty baby, we really did it.â)
Luckily, Erica comes over, mumbling about how inconsiderate Scott is, bitching about color matching and the fact that Lydia refuses to let Erica touch her face with a ten foot makeup brush, even though Erica could make her look stunning. Scott tunes out when she starts on Maliaâs refusal to wear makeup at all. Itâs all old complaints, anyway.
Scottâs scrolling through his Instagram feed when a text buzzes across his screen. Itâs Derek.
D: Sorry about your neck
Me: Bullshit u are
Scottâs smiling, he canât help himself. Derekâs not sorry at all, he pinned Scott down with a forearm over his chest and latched on like a blood sucker, making Scott arch hard from the sharp pull of his mouth.
D: youâre right, Iâm not
Scott rolls his eyes and looks up from his phone, finding Derek on a couch at the far end of the room, knees spread, arms over the back of the couch. Scott wants to climb on his lap. Their eyes meet, Derek smirks at him, thumb sliding across his phone.
D: it looks good on you
D: nice reminder
Me: I hate u
D: no you donât
Scott scowls down at his phone to keep from grinning any wider.
âWhoâre you talking to?â Stiles asks, once again hanging his arms over Scottâs shoulder. He must have showered just now, hair wet, water droplets sliding down his long pale neck. The t-shirt heâs wearing is Liamâs, barely reaching the top of his jeans. He slides forward and it rucks up, showing off his red briefs.
Scott wrenches his gaze away, guilty. When he looks up, Derekâs watching them.
âNo one,â Scott replies, absently, bringing Instagram up again. Instead of scrolling, he pulls up the camera, pointing it at the mirror. Stiles grins wide and turns his head, licking Scottâs cheek as he takes the picture.
âPost it,â Stiles says, approvingly. It should be disgusting, Scott thinks, as Stilesâ fingers wipe away the spit from Scottâs face. It isnât. Even in the picture, Scottâs beaming, unfazed. Itâs just how they are. âHashtag Sciles.â
âFuck no,â Scott says, scrolling through filters for an excuse to keep looking at the picture, the little details; their hands tangled together over Scottâs shoulder, Stilesâ hand cupping the front of his neck to keep him from jerking away from his tongue. Scott gets it, he does. âI refuse to add fuel to that fire.â
âA âScilesâ caption isnât adding fuel to that fire,â Liam says, leaning into their space. Scott tilts the phone, so Liam can see the picture. âEverything you two do adds fuel to that fire.â
âLike face licking?â Stiles asks, sounding innocent, voice at the top of his throat. Scott scowls at him in the mirror. The response he gets is a smug Stiles batting his eyelashes ridiculously.
âLike going to clubs and grinding all over each other,â Malia says, leaning against the make up table in front of them. âPretending to kiss each other on stage.â
âAll the fucking interview flirting,â Liam adds, rolling his eyes.
âJealous, Dunbar?â Stiles asks, leaning over Scottâs shoulder to smirk at Liam. The action brings their cheeks together. Scott can feel Stilesâ stubble against his skin.
âOh totally,â Liam says, sitting back.
âItâs just how we are,â Scott says, with a shrug. He posts the picture â@theonlystiles is in my way again #scilesâ â heâs a masochist, and he knows that Stiles will flip when he sees it. Heâll probably bark out a loud laugh and give Scott a wide smile, eyes soft and private like he does when theyâre in on the same joke.
âAlways have been, always will be,â Stiles says, firmly, squeezing Scott shoulder before he slides away. His fingers trail Maliaâs belly as he walks past her to where Boyd is hanging up clothes for him to choose from for todayâs round of interviews.
âItâs not just me,â Scott says, gesturing to Malia with his chin. Stiles is affectionate with everyone in the band. They all take turns hanging off each other. Itâs easy with the five of them, friends since forever. It shows.
âItâs different, Scott,â Malia says, rolling her eyes at him just like Liam did a minute ago. âDonât play dumb, you know itâs true.â
âFuck off,â Scott says. He does know. Everyone knows, but theyâre all usually good about not mentioning it.
Scott knows that itâs more than a best friends thing, more than a sexual tension thing. Itâs something completely unique to them, something he could never put into words. Heâs tried that, letters and songs and fumbling speeches when heâs drunk. It all ends poorly.
Theyâre not confessions. Thereâs nothing grand going on behind the scenes, even if everyone thinks theyâre fucking. All Scott wants to do is articulate it.
(One time, when they were very young and very stoned, Stiles had told him they were soulmates. His eyes were wide and sincere, watching Scott from under the ridiculous mop of hair he had before he buzzed his head. Scott had laughed at first, but Stiles was so serious that he quieted down. He believes it, too. Even sober, years later.)
Scott looks at her with a smile on his face, his cheeks dimpling.
Scott looks at her with a smile on his face, his cheeks dimpling.
âWhat?â Lydia asks, self-consciously. She knew the outfit was going to be too much â she probably shouldnât have gone with designer, that was a little overboard; sheâs probably wearing too much make-up, lip tacky with gloss; thereâs probably too much hairspray in her hair, making it look stiff and dirty â Scottâs the type of person who likes the comfy look, the messy-bun-clean-face look that she usually has when theyâre not going on a date.
âYou look beautiful,â is all he says. The smile stays on his face.
Lydiaâs heart squeezes in her chest, making the inside of her rib cage ache with how hard it beats. Sheâs sure he can hear it, but he doesnât flinch.Â
âYou think so?â she asks, with a self-depreciating laugh and she doesnât know why this matters so much. Itâs not like she doesnât know sheâs beautiful. Sheâs known that basically her whole life, but she wants some validation, standing there in her doorway.Â
âAlways,â Scott says, stepping forward so theyâre a breath apart. He brushes a loose strand of hair off her face, finger tracing down her face as he lets his hand fall. His cheeks are pink, and Lydia feels herself grinning, pleased.Â
âShall we?â she asks, dropping her voice low. She wants to say that they donât have to, that they can skip the date and go straight to him carrying her to bed, but she doesnât. She wants this. She wants to sit across from him and ask about his day and watch him smile at her.Â
âWe shall,â Scott says, with a grin, offering her his arm. She takes it, presses their sides together, and lets him lead the way.
