Texts of Eno: An Essay on the Strategies of War of the Union and the Alliance
This text was written in the Year 590 by Aleanna, a female academic in the Baraneto Unity. Written 2 decades after Genano’s A General History of the Planet Eno: For the Common Man, this essay presents a basic overview of the military strategies of both sides of the Great War. It gives basic weapon descriptions, naval strategies, and explains how Magic is used on Eno. This essay also reveals an important part of the Baranetan culture: equality. Women and men are free to do as they choose in the Baranetan culture, which is different from most of the rest of the world.
An Essay on the Strategies of War of the Union and the Alliance:
The Union relies upon the knowledge of Magic and the manipulation of the elements; the Alliance, their abundance of metals and the might of their warriors.
The monks of the Nokitowa Empire practice Magic as well, but theirs is a peaceful magic, and they do not use it for war. The Alliance must turn to their abundance of metals and metallurgical skills; theirs are the finest blades, axes, and spears of the entire world. The Alliance’s long range spears, thrown from a device worn on the arm, bring death upon their foes from far distances; it is these spears that come from the Lower tribes. From the Kingdom of Antiona comes the curved blade. These long, curved swords cut through bodies with ease, and are made of the strongest metals of the land, found in the King’s mines. The hand axe of the United Islands is deadly from close range, and can be thrown in times of need.
The magic of the Union is its main strength. When near water, a mage can manipulate it and form deadly barrages; the most skilled mages can pull the rain from the sky, and manipulate the weather. With a torch, a mage can throw fire and form great beasts of flame, burning anything in its path. When left without water or fire, the common mage is left to the power of the mind; they can send cause frenzy in their foes, and can inspire their allies to act without fear. The Nomataru Commonwealth utilizes highly organized cavalry, who carry torches, wielding fire magic to defeat their foes. The Northern tribes of Erajon support their mages with an affinity for broadswords. These warriors are fearless, and charge head on into battle. The Confederation islands utilize the most interesting weapons. Apart from magic, their warriors utilize claw-blades of sharp volcanic rock, and arrows tipped with poison of the jungle. Their claw attacks combined with a shower of poison arrows bring fear to even the most hardened warriors.
Battles tend to be fought on coasts or in mountain borders, though invasions have been attempted into the Kingdom of Antiona. The Alliance has the upper hand at sea, as the sea-faring people of the Vanadian Peninsular State have had the most experience with naval activities. They tend to use large ships, and send spear attacks across the water, though they have been known for using suicide boats, and ramming the Union vessels. The Union, while not being strangers to naval activity, much prefer smaller, faster, vessels and use teams of mages manipulating the water to attack their enemies. To explain the naval capabilities of either side would take a book, but the basics have been stated here.
Both the Union and the Alliance are constantly studying and inventing new forms of warfare, as this war has been raging for over 400 years.
