Want to hear about one of the most traumatic experiences I’ve ever had? 👇🏻⁣ ⁣ 💇🏻‍♀️ The first time I got my hair cut by myself (my mom was getting hers cut at the same time) the stylist shaved my head. Yep, you read that right. I asked for a pixie cut circa Kari from Digimon (it was 4th grade 😂) and walked out with a buzz cut that was just long enough for me to spike. ⁣ ⁣ 👗 I was already a tomboy so losing all of my hair completely shook my confidence. I ended up wearing a bandana for the next two years. So when I saw bandanas were suddenly trendy, I decided to channel a bit of my childhood 😂⁣ ⁣ 🤔 Anyone rose have a good “worst haircut ever” story? Probably the only two people at Fort Wainwright excited about snow 😂🤷🏻‍♀️ I get questions all the time that sound like this: ⁣ ⁣ “What’s the post REALLY like, I hear it’s awful.”⁣ “Are they’re nice people there? I’ve heard bad things.” ⁣ “What is there to do in Fairbanks? I’ve heard there’s nothing there and everyone hates it.”⁣ ⁣ If you’re a military spouse or even someone who might be moving for work, there’s a good chance you’re going to end up somewhere that will make other people cringe. BUT if there is one piece of advice I could give you all right now it is that every place you go is going to be what YOU make of it. ⁣ ⁣ An Army post doesn’t just become a home overnight. It takes work. It takes putting yourself out there and getting to know people. It takes actually leaving your house and exploring what the new community has to offer. There is always going to be someone who hates where they are in life, that’s just, well, life. Just like there are always going to be people who suck everywhere you go.⁣ ⁣ As a military spouse YOU have the power to welcome people into the community. To get our there and have coffee dates and play dates or dive into a new job. YOU have the choice of whether to go out and explore the local area on the weekends or stay in your home. REMINDER: TIME IS FLEETING. Jasper has been extra needed today. I found myself getting frustrated when I was in the middle of a task and he demanded to be held. Then I realized that one day he isn’t going to need me like this anymore. He is already up so fast that I feel like I’m almost grasping at these moments. Even if you’re not a mama, save this post for later. So that you can come back when you catch yourself wishing for the next day or the next month or the next year. Pause. Remember that these moments are fleeting. We can’t get them back and we’re not promised another day here.
