El Paso, TX has to be one of the worst places I've ever lived.
Some context: I grew up in Minnesota, just northwest of the Twin Cities so I'm not unfamiliar with the heat, but that was usually coupled with ridiculous humidity and rarely exceeded 90 degrees.
The last few years, my spouse and I lived in Washington. We loved it there.
And then the Army sent us to Fort Bliss. And not only do I live in a climate reminiscent of the inside of an air fryer most of the year, they also send my spouse away to month long trainings and other field exercises right around my birthday and most important holidays.
The cruelty is the point, I suppose. This place treats their soldiers like ass. They care even less about dependents.
News comes down the pipe. Spouse's unit has been waffling about sending some guys overseas for a rotation. Will they? Won't they? Nobody knows.
So spouse is going to be stationed unaccompanied in Europe for the length of a pregnancy sometime next year. And I have a choice to make. Do I stay in Texas and wait it out until he gets back? OR do I throw most of our stuff in storage and move back to Minnesota for that time?
