personally recognizing the authors in most papers I read and being able to email them

learning about really neat interdisciplinary connections because everyone in this field comes from a different background

being able to say I was here before it was cool (eventually)

shoutout to people with no fandom or tag on any website because there aren't enough people for one

shoutout to people who invented their hobby and if anyone else engages in it that's by pure chance

shoutout to people who can't explain their favorite activity to anyone because no one even understands how it could be considered fun
