New Years Eve, I went to Memphis to celebrate with my oldest friend. He is also the guy that led me to Christ. He is absolutely no poster boy for Christianity as he drinks, smokes pot, and uses women. I told him that his lifestyle proves that he's a closeted agnostic. He disagreed. He believes that he will go to heaven based on the fact that he believes in Jesus, the son of God. I explained that it was absurd to think that way. He tried turning the table on me by asking me where I get my morality. I told him that morality is something all people have. My belief is that people are genuinely trying to be good to each other. Of course, he told me that it's because of God. I disagreed and pointed out non abrahamic societies that are good people. He explained that it all came from God. The conversation wound down when I explained that I don't believe in the supernatural. He was shocked and told me about dark and light spirits that came to him at different times in his life. I told him that the brain plays tricks on people, and he insisted it was real. After that, I realized that he was delusional, and the poison of religion had taken him completely. I told him that my life is better without the presence of a supernatural daddy, and he and I rang in the new year with a few drinks.
