Fairtrade every day. Today is World Fairtrade Day and all over the world people are celebrating the contribution Fairtrade has made to the fight against poverty, human rights and climate change. In the 1980's we bought Fairtrade coffee from a shelf in Oxfam, today you can find it everywhere. Knitters - both Manos del Uruguay & Debbie Bliss have Fairtade yarns in their range - seek them out. Have you wondered what does ’ Fair trade' label on products mean? 🌿🌿🌿Fairtrade is a social movement that empowers farmers in developing countries to achieve better trading conditions and to promote sustainability. It simply means paying these farmers fair wages for their resources and amount of hard work they put in. Not many know about this but there are unethical corporations who pay these farmers poorly just to lower production costs and reap more profits for themselves. Very often, these farmers and workers don’t get a fair share of the trade benefits. Thus, Fairtrade offers consumers a powerful way to reduce poverty through their every day shopping. Workers on fair trade farms enjoy freedom of association, safe working conditions and sustainable wages. Forced child and slave labor are also strictly prohibited. There’s power in consumerism.
