Review of Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas.
“My hands were on you, too,” she says. And then she pulls the door open and walks out, closing it gently behind her. I stare after her, the empty space making me suddenly want her back. “Don’t say things like that,” I mumble to an empty house. If I know you want it, too, how will I be able to resist you?”

There is always a book that you don’t expect to like/love since it's out of your comfort zone.
For me, it was this book. I don’t know what compelled me to read my first taboo book which included almost a 20 age difference between the two main characters. I am not a fan of huge gaps in real life so I was surprised when I picked up this book. More surprised, when I loved it.
The synopsis seems strange and weird but the story is much better than that. I was skeptical at first as well but I am glad I gave this book a chance.
Jordan (19) falls for her boyfriend’s dad (38). And honestly, her boyfriend is such a jerk and doesn’t treat her right.
Something happens to Jordan’s and Cole’s apartment where they have no choice but to stay at Pike’s place. There is tons of sexual tension between Pike and Jordan but nothing steamy happens until 60 percent of the book. Which I liked, since it read like a slow burn instead of insta love.
Besides,Jordan being his son’s girlfriend, there is a huge age difference between them. Which is why, Pike tries to forget about that young girl and maintains self control. He is successful in that until Jordan pushes him over the edge. That scene was my favorite. It was so hot. I could feel the tension and heat/desire, as if it was pouring out of the paper. Making my cheeks burn up
My reaction during the steamy scenes.
P.S- In real life, I have never found older men attractive except for some hot older celebrities but that's it. And, in reality, I like dating guys around my age. Plus,I like women more than men.
Fav Contemporary Reads
-Contemporary is my least favorite genre. It’s either a hit or miss for me. But I have found a few that I actually loved to my surprise and wanted to share them with you.
