Weatherworking is an ancient magickal art. It has been practiced at least since Medieval Times when Sea Witches were called upon to raise winds for becalmed sailors (tho honestly it was probably practiced way before then). It works directly with the raw primal forces of nature! It is a very powerful art that is also very dangerous if you don't know what you are doing! I don't recommend it for beginners. If you wish to specialize in Weather Magick, then you must know more than just spells. You have to actually *study* things like meteorology & atmospheric science. You have to actually pay attention to your local weather patterns, your local climate, & notice changes in wind patterns, temperature, barometric pressure, & cloud formation. You have to actually learn how to be one with the weather & learn how to feel that static charge of the air before a storm, when the pressure rises/drops, when the humidity changes, etc. You have to be ready to jump up at 2AM when that storm rolls in to do your spell.

Being a Weatherworker is no easy task! You will get ridiculed for "screwing with natural systems." You will get told you "don't know what you are doing" (even if you have been doing it for years like I have). You will get lectured by so called "Pagan Elders" on the ethics of magick & how you are pulling moisture from areas that need it (basically blaming you for a drought or a flood). But worry not! Weatherworking is one of the ORIGINAL magickal arts so they can honestly just fuck off. Mages have been altering the weather for thousands of years now this nothing new. I don't use any of the traditional Storm Calling methods I just move the air & clouds mys'elf using my powers.

Pros & Cons of being a Weatherworker

Pros:

That static charge of the air before a storm hits.

Being empowered by a thunderstorm or a windy day.

Having influence over when it rains or whatever.

Bragging rights when a storm-calling spell works.

Needing only the weather to do magick (everything else is optional).

Being able to be proud of a storm, the wind, etc because you made it happen.

Being able to call up a storm to get out of doing certain outdoor activities.

Cloud Reading & that old folkloric weather info comes in handy.

Cursing using tempestual visualizations & Storm Water because the weather is good AND bad.

Storm Water, Rain Water, Snow Water, oh my!

Cons:

Accidently conjuring storms or highs winds during strong emotions.

Barometric Pressure Headaches (because magick has a cost)

Static electrical shock mostly every time you touch metal, fabric, or another person.

Putting too much of yours'elf into a storm can make you sick (again because magick has a cost)

That disappointment when a storm-calling doesn't work for whatever reason.

Accidently causing the electricity in a building to blink.

Your electronics misbehaving during strong emotions.

Getting lectured by so called "magickal authorities" that you "don't know what you're doing," you are "tampering with natural systems," you are "causing droughts/floods/hurricanes," &tc.

“Someday, I’ll be even more powerful than ya, mama!” Mitch smiled at his mother, proud of the little breeze he had just managed to summon. He began to ramble on in the way excited children always do.

Marie forced a sad smile, knowing her legacy couldn’t truly be passed onto her son, for it was not how the spirits worked. Long ago, they had decreed the magic was traceable in all the women in her bloodline, and here she was, the last one of that line. It was a miracle he had this much potential to begin with, especially at the tender age of seven. Most indications of skill didn’t manifest until around ten years, but the spirits had decided to give her son the cruel hope that he could excel with practice. “We’ll see, Mitch. It’ll take a lot of work.”

Marie was nothing if not a practical woman, and holding the ever looming weight that her breed of wind magic would go the way of extinction, made the best with what she could. She had been given two sons thus far, and loved them dearly of course. There was never a day where they couldn’t cause her to smile, but she secretly put all her hopes on her now infant daughter. Stella was the one who could take her mantle, not Mitch or Nathaniel. Nathaniel at least would have the blessing of never knowing about this, as he was too much like his father to show any potential. She was shocked, to say the least, when her middle child began throwing paper airplanes much farther than naturally possible, sneezing so hard he shot himself backwards, and other magical misfires that forced her to conceal Mitch’s talents from her husband in any way possible. He would need to know to at least not cause needless accidents, if he would ever grow into such powers at all.

She knelt in front of her son, delicately placing her hands on his shoulders. “I want ya to know, that no matter what, Mitch, ya mama loves ya.”

The boy beamed, going in for a hug. “Of course mama, I’ll always love ya too. And when I grow up, I’ll be big and strong enough to protect ya from anythin’. I’ll beat anyone up that’s mean to ya.”

She kissed his forehead delicately before admonishing him softly. “Now, that’s all well an’ good, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. No need to rough up everyone when we can talk ‘bout most problems.”

“But even so, if it messes up, I’ll just blast ‘em away!” he stuck his hands out dramatically, expecting a big gust of wind to blow out, and frowned angrily when another soft breeze gently shifted the trees in front of them.

Marie chuckled softly. “Of course dear. We’ll get ya there soon enough. But let’s do something more helpful to ya, ya ever want to make potions?”

She returned to her feet and guided her son back to her workshop. If nothing else, he could learn the practical things anyone with a hint of a magical spark could perform. Maybe then he wouldn’t grow up to be so disappointed.

Methods Of Divination pt.1

Cartomancy- fortune telling with cards etc. tarot cards, rune cards, cartouche, playing cards, karma cards, medicine cards

Crystal Gazing- also known as Scrying. Uses a crystal ball, bowl of inked water, or magic mirror. 

Dowsing- divination by the use of a pendulum, forked stick, or metal rod. Great for yes or no questions. Can be used with your own designed charts for anwers and is a very flexible tool. 

Numerology- the use of numbers and calculations therof. Anything from your birthday to dream analysis can be used. 

Palmistry- divination based on the study of the lines and symbols on hands. 

Runes- use of stones or ceramic sqaures inscribed with the magical alphabet of Germanic, Scandinavian, or Norse symbols. Excellent for dream analysis, spells, talismans, and general divination. 

Graphology- study of an indidual’s handwritng. 

Geomancy- use of the marks on the Earth. Astrological Geomancy combines astrology and inner consiousness, wherein a set of random dots are correlated to a type of astological chart. 

Tarot- reading of cards with specific meanings and layouts 

Abacomancy- form of divination based on the interpretation of the patterns in dust, dirt, silt, sand, or the ashes of the recently deceased 

Aeromancy- divination conducted by interpreting atomosphric conditions

Apantomancy- divination using articles at hand or things that present themselves by chance 

Arithmancy- divination based on asigning nuerical value to a word or phrase 

Astrology- divination based on the correlation between natural phenomena such as tides, weather, seismic activity and soilunar and planetary cycles and sunspots

Augury- interpretaion of omens 

Automatic Writing- writing said to be produced by spiritual, magic energies, r subconcious agency rather than the conscious intention of the writer 

Belomancy(Arrow Devination)- devinaion using arrows 

Bibliomancy- foretelling the future by interpreting a randomly chosen passage from a book 

Osteomancy(Bone Reading)- divination by examinaion of bones

Brontomancy- divination by thunder 

Capnomancy- divination using smoak 

Ceromancy- divination using a candle 

Chirognomy- judging a persons by examining the lines and other features of the hand 

Chiromancy- palmistry, palm reading 

Cledonism- divination based on the chance events or encounters, such as words occasionally uttered 

Conchomancy- messages from the sea

Nephomancy is categorised under Aeromancy (air divination) and is a form of divination that involves observing and interpreting the colour, shape and position of clouds in the sky.

Cloud divination is a good way to connect with nature and is a form of scrying that is accessible to everyone. Laying on the grass and staring up at the clouds is an activity in which we, as children, have all probably participated. For some then, this method of scrying may prove easier than other forms of divination.

Nephomancy is much like meditation but with the eyes open: the most important thing is to clear the mind. Patience is important too as nothing, at first, may appear.

However, with regular practice, seeing shapes and patterns in the clouds will become easier. Images that appear are messages and will help in providing guidance and advice for the practitioner.

Superstition:

If the wind is calm on this day, there will be few snakes this year.

If there are strong winds or storms there will be snakes, toads and pests in plenty. Other animals will also awaken early from hibernation.

Stay from using tools that turn on this day, like a spinning wheel, as it will curse your pets with illness.

Aeromancy

Divination conducted by interpreting atmospheric conditions.

Aeromancy uses cloud formations, wind currents and cosmological events such as comets to attempt to divine the future.

There are sub-types of this practice which are as follows:

Austromancy- wind divination

Ceraunoscopy- observing thunder and lightening

Chaomancy - aerial vision

Meteormancy - meteors and shooting stars
