What if other Pokemon in Pokémon Go get Adventure Effects?
So we’ve known since December 2023 about Dialga and Palkia’s Origin forms getting special effects of their signature moves Roar of Time and Spacial Rend respectively. These are called Adventure Effects and are able to change how the game is played. They can only be used if you have the specific Candy and enough Stardust and can have their time limits extended by using more of both.
For the sake of those who didn’t get the chance to participate in the event to get these Pokémon a few weeks or longer than when I made this post, the moves do as follows;
If your Origin Form Dialga has Roar of Time in its moveset, it is able to pause the timers of all items currently in play that affect you specifically. I haven’t tested it on the Mega Pokemon timers or the Daily Incense yet, but for the regular Incense, Lucky Eggs and Star Pieces, it will pause the timers if they are active before you use the Adventure Effect. It does not affect Adventure Effects themselves (I’ve tested it and they don’t work that way).
If your Palkia is the Origin Form with the move Spacial Rebd, than it expands your search radius for Pokémon. Honestly I would’ve preferred if they made it so Pokemon that are Region Exclusives (Tauros for the USA, Kangaskhan for Oceania, Mr. Mime for Europe, etc.), but in hindsight this is still a very strong effect, especially if you have a Pokémon Go Plus or Plus + but a stationary job like Office Worker as opposed to one like Factory Worker where you gotta keep on your feet. I think it might also extend the range you can interact with Pokestops at, but I haven’t tested it out.
But this isn’t about Dialga or Palkia. You read the heading, so you know this is about what other Pokémon could get these Adventure Effects, so let’s look at a few examples of where these Effects could go, starting with one I already brought up; Regional Exclusive Encounters.
There is a Pokémon already in the game called Hoopa, the Mischief Pokémon. The signature move of the Hoopa in the main series games is Hyperspace Hole which as of current is not available in Pokémon Go, and would be an amazing move to incorporate the ability to catch Region Exclusive Pokémon from the comfort of your house. However, there’s another way this could go. Reminding now my dear audience; Hoopa Unbound, the Djinn Pokémon with its own signature move, Hyperspace Fury. Again in the mainline games, when Hoopa switches between it’s Confined and Unbound forms, it’s signature move also changes. So how abiht this~
In Hoopa’s Confined Form, you can use the Adventure Effect of Hyperspace Hole to encounter low level Region Exclusive Pokémon but will be a sinch to capture. However if your Hoopa is Unbound and has Hyperspace Fury, than the Region Exclusive Pokémon will be higher level, but I hope you have a lot of Razz Berries because they will be tough to catch.
Now let’s look at a different way Adventure Effects could be done. Type Specific Encounters.
The two examples I came up with sadly already have their signature Moves available, but if Niantic ever decides to adjust that, than Origin Form Giratina with Shadow Force allowing more encounters with Ghost Types and Heatran having more encounters with Fire types if it has Magma Storm would be a great way to integrate older moves with special effects. Could even work with Xerneas and Yveltal’s signature moves Geomancy (I know it’s a status move but Charm is doing damage in Go so whatever) and Oblivion Wing (both of which are not in Pokémon Go yet) increasing Fairy and Dark type encounters respectively.
I know Heatran, Xerneas and Yveltal don’t have alternate forms, but it still could work. Adventure Effects are brand new, so we don’t have set rules quite yet.
The final idea I have so far is for the biggest mamma jamma of them all, Arceus and Judgement. Another move not yet in the game, and this one is a more situational one… but what if it majorly increased the chance of catching Pokémon? Have a specific Raid Pokémon you want but you hear it’s catch rate is impossible? Use Acreus’ Judgement Adventure Effect and you’ll never have to waste a Premier Ball again!
Well that was some ideas I had about the Adventure Effect mechanic. Does anybody else have any ideas for what could be done? I honestly just like conversation, so if anybody can come up with anything else, than I’m all ears.
Thanks for putting up with this essay of a post and I hope you all have good luck in your games.
