Hello AUideas!

It’s that time of year again, and we’re bringing back our annual AUideas Advent Calendar! For those of you who are new, you probably don’t know that since we are not an art blog, the Admins here at AUideas have always been EXTREMELY jealous of “Inktober,” ogling at fan art as it passes by on our dashboards and feeling the overwhelming need to bring something similar to you, our dedicated followers, for one month of the year. So, with great pleasure, we’d like to introduce (for the third time) the AUideas Advent Calendar. Here’s how it works for you newcomers and oldcomers (be sure to read on, because we have a few MORE tweaks and twists this year!):

From December 1st to January 1st, the Admins of AUideas will be posting an AU idea every other day (only on odd days) @ 3:00 p.m. EST that will be the focus for our writing-followers who are craving the chance for some speed writing or “one shots.”

Participants then have two days to write a short fanfiction of around 700 words (please feel free to write more if you want!).

Participants must then reblog the main AU idea post and add a link of their writing piece by 11:00 a.m. EST on the following odd day.

You can attach an AO3/wattpad/fanfiction.net/etc. link to the tumblr post or write directly onto the reblogged post.

By the time the next AU idea comes out, the Admins will have compiled the writing pieces into one large list that will be available at the bottom of the following AU post.

This is a great way to encourage community and make connections for RPers and other collaborators through reading some great writing pieces!

We will also be bringing back our AAC Never Book! On every even day, we will be posting our favorite one-liner from the previous day’s works and add it to our new Never Book tag: “The Never Book: Followed.” That way, we will have a post for every day of the month without fail so people can be inspired to write even if they choose to not participate!

In addition, the AUideas Advent Calendar post on the final day (December 31st) will be the most important, as we will pool together all the names of the followers who participated in every prompt without skipping or missing a day and enter them into a raffle where the winner will choose one of their one-shots for the Admins to continue by 5,000 words through a collaboration of both the Admins and Assistant Admins (the final draft of the Admins’ Additions will be posted to the blog on January 6th) and be a Featured Follower under the “Follower’s Works” tab on the blog.

Here are some FAQ from past years:

If you would like your work to be submitted anonymously, we would have to suggest writing it on a separate website (wattpad/AO3/fanfiction.net/etc.) with a blank account or something along those lines. Unfortunately, we cannot link anonymously on Tumblr - sorry! You can use google docs too. Send us the “view only” link.

AAC AU’s don’t need to be fandom, so go nuts with your original characters - we’d love to read about their antics!

No, there are no fandoms we will not accept. We will accept you sending any and all fandom material (though we do ask for an NSFW tag if it’s needed). We don’t typically do fandom-themed AUs unless it’s one of the BIG BIG fandoms (i.e. Harry Potter, superhero universe [marvel/DC], Pokémon, General Magical Universe w/ Fantasy [Hobbit], General Magical Universe w/ Realism [Twilight, other romance books], etc.) For AAC, you can use our prompts to write for any fandom. (#no-fandom-left-behind). WITH THAT BEING SAID, we will not be featuring any works that do not follow our Submission Guidelines.

If you’re writing on AO3, we have a special collections tag! Make sure to add your work to the collection labeled “AUideas Advent Calendar 2017.” (another shoutout to @goosegoddess for coming up with the idea a couple years ago!)

Trained to Hate AU

Character A and Character B used to be a crime fighting duo by night, but that changed when Character B was captured and experimented on by villain!Character C. Now, Character C has brainwashed Character B into thinking that they’re a villain, and that Character A is their mortal enemy.

Fairyland AU

Character A is bored with their life – everything seems monotonous, so Character A decides to go seek out the land of the fairies in an attempt to break up their incredibly boring life. 

Character B is a fairy who’s honestly doing just fine, thank you very much, so they can’t really say they are all too thrilled when Character A comes crashing through their fairy circle.

A Little Tipsy AU

Character A wants to figure out what kind of drunk person they are, but they’re too scared to drink alone so they invite Character B over to make sure that Character A doesn’t do anything stupid. Cue Character B drinking sodas, amused, while Character A just gets progressively more tipsy.

Home for the Holidays AU

It’s winter break, but Character A doesn’t want to go back home to their family...it’s complicated.

Instead, Characters B and C invite Character A to spend the holidays at their apartment so that they can be in good company; cue Character A opening up about their family problems, general fluffiness, and some level of shenanigans!

Chamomile: We have @nsfw-auideas​, which has been inactive for a while since I became uncomfortable running it and the other admins sort of dropped of….but for blogs that inspire me, I always love @writing-prompt-s​ because they give me ideas for prompts with their prompts (if that makes sense, lmao) and also from fanfiction/fanart. I get //so// much inspiration from fanfiction/fanart.

M: Yeah we have our NSFW blog, but that’s pretty much it, and I don’t really have a lot of time at the moment to look at other blogs, so this is definitely one for the other admins to answer.

Syren: I second what Chamomile mentioned, and I also get a lot of inspiration from @inell​ who is a writing machine in the Sterek fandom. It's insane how many stories she churns out, and they often help me mindlessly brainstorm, if that makes any sense??

Jynn: I get a lot of inspiration from @otpprompts​!
