ACITW fans - RISE
Hi I have literally not been active on this tumblr for the past three years apparently but tomorrow some beautiful souls are releasing a sequel to A Change In The Weather and I need a place to scream about it so might as well be there.
It’s been eight years.

A drop in the ocean just started playing on my playlist and quite frankly; I wasn’t prepared :,)
november 2020 has gone so off the walls that at this point i’m just waiting for cacophony to rise from the void and force us all to regress to the 2010s by updating acitw
Fandom pettiness (a rant)
OK, I know that I’m going to anger a few people and step on some toes here, but this needs to be said. Recently, there has been a spat going on and a lot of nasty anon notes to several authors over their work writing conclusions for the sadly unfinished A Change In The Weather story written by @cacophonylights. The idea that we’re suffering through schoolyard bullying and people feeling put out over claims over the right to write in this universe is beyond stupid.
First of all, neither of these authors are wrong to dare write their own conclusions for this story. While I wish that @cacophonylights would come back and reveal how she/he had envisioned the story to end, that is not to be. People leave fandoms all the time and there are thousands of wonderful, unfinished stories all over the internet. But @cacophonylights was extremely generous in 1) not purging the story off the internet so we can continue to enjoy it and 2) granting freedom to any writer who might want to play in the sandbox that she/he built. With so many authors erasing stories after they leave a fandom, this is a rare and wonderful gift left to us and we should honor that generosity.
Having said that, the right to write stories for the ACITW universe belongs to no one and everyone. Everyone can write whatever they wish using that framework and no one has the right to claim sole ownership of it. Likewise, the audience can read and support whatever writers we choose and if you’re not a fan of one writer using this universe, there is no obligation for you to support them.
The argument over who wrote first means nothing because, as I said, no one has sole right to this universe to play in. I don’t expect other authors to give me a heads up if they write something in the same vein or with similar themes to stories that I’ve started and not yet finished. What someone else writes has nothing to do with what i’m working on. I write what I need to write and if someone writes something with a similar premise, more power to them. This fandom needs all the talented writers and artists we can get.
We all write on our own schedules, dealing with whatever RL issues that take priority. We all have family issues to deal with, and times when our health or work doesn’t permit us to write as much or as quickly as we wish. This isn’t a race where one writer wins and one loses if someone completes their work first. There’s room for all of us here. And rather than complaining, let’s just be thankful that our fandom is still alive and vibrant. Dead fandoms are no fun to play in.
As for the anon hate, that kind of garbage has no place here. All writers try to share their talents and ideas with us and bullying them just spoils everything. You’re not going to protect the writer you favor by trying to discourage anyone else and you’re not protecting the legacy of @cacophonylights, who’d made it clear that others are free to write a continuation of ACITW. If you can’t make a statement without putting your name to it, then it’s something best not said. None of these authors deserve to be abused for daring to publish their work.
Lastly, all writers want acknowledgement for the effort they put in. I know from personal experience just how many hours are devoted to plotting out stories, writing, editing, rewriting, more edits and then posting. You hope that your work is seen and that it is enjoyed. Reblogs and comments make your day. If you like an author’s work, let them know. But don’t rip down the hard work of someone else to support your chosen favorite. This isn’t a zero sum game, where complimenting one writer means that someone else loses out.
I hope to see many stories posted in this universe. It’s a real testament to @cacophonylights just how deeply loved ACITW is after so many years and hopefully the major stories that we’ve already gotten will inspire numerous other writers to explore this universe further.
