I'm a little late to the party, but nonetheless happy that @adhd-is is encouraging the rest of tumblr to participate in this ADHD selfie day! I have lived with ADHD-Inattentive Type since I was first diagnosed in elementary school. Years of frustration, tears, triumphs, and many, many setbacks have brought me to where I am today as a junior in college. ADHD has made it more than difficult to focus in school, but it has allowed me to harness the powers of hyperfocusing towards a productive cause; spending hours reading my textbooks and articles online about my intended future career in Speech and Language Pathology. Though I may not work directly with individuals who have ADHD someday, I still wish to dedicate as much of my life as possible towards advocacy and support. Next semester I plan on becoming a volunteer advocate for children who have IEPs/504 plans but who don't have people willing to advocate for them. I grew up with a fierce mother and a loving special ed teacher who fought tooth and nail for me. The least I can do is give some of the support I had back to children who deserve it. To everyone like me, with ADHD: remember that you are strong, smart, and worthy of accommodations, love and happiness.
