đAstro Love Advices (check your Venus)
Aries: âSometimes taking it slow doesnât mean that you donât care enough, it just means that you are willing to put your effort into itâ
Taurus: âFind reassurance and love in yourself first, look for a partner after. Also donât depend so much on material giftsâ
Gemini: âI know you care a lot about the mind, but wouldnât be better to let the heart speak too sometimes?â
Cancer: âI donât want to sound harsh, but donât be too clingy. Learn independence and trust in a relationship. Also a little bit of adventure doesnât hurtâ
Leo: âI know your way of loving someone is showing how much you care for them, but sometimes it can be too overwhelming for the other personâ
Virgo: âBeing in a relationship is not the same as having a job. Being more spontaneous wouldnât hurt as you may thinkâ
Libra: âYou donât need a relationship to feel complete. Donât strive to look for a partner every time you happen to be single. Trust me, the better ones come when you are not lookingâ
Scorpio: âI know you feel emotions a lot. Love is not an exception. But know that the other person cannot read your mind and, even if it may be hard at first, try to communicate what you feel when you need itâ
Sagittarius: âYes, love is an adventure, but not always, remember? Sometimes itâs good to relax and not always be on the look for a new experience. But it that is a film marathon on the couch, I would say yesâ
Capricorn: âStatus and stability are not everything you need, honey. You wonât find the perfect partner if you donât start understanding what you need, not what you think you need to have the perfect relationshipâ
Aquarius: âRelationships and feelings are not always awkward and something to be avoided. You can find a genuine and loving partner even by sharing all of you. It will love you any less. And if it doesnât, next ;)â
Pisces: âThe perfect fairy tale doesnât exist. Iâm sorry to say that. But partners who will love you as much as you want to be loved, do. What about looking for that instead?â

Eight Fundamental Questions for Investors from Lewis G. Whyte FFA
While decluttering, I re-found this excellent 15 page reprint from the larger book âPrinciples of Finance & Investmentâ by Scottish Actuary Lewis G. Whyte. The references to railway nationalisation and other clues show that it was written in the late 1940s or 1950s, although the classical style feels older. However, whether you are thinking of buying units in an index tracking unit trust, Bitcoin, fossil fuel producer shares or even a house, the content is timeless. Lewis Whyteâs questions are:-
1) What am I seeking from this investment? 2) What is the nature of the possible investment? 3) Is it issued by a reputable company? 4) What are the companyâs plans for the future? 5) Does the company employ expert people? 6) What are the future prospects for the company? 7) Will it be possible to sell the investment easily in the future? 8) Is the purchase price reasonable?
The book is no longer in print, but, if you are seeking a classically written general financial textbook from a reputable expert and you can find a copy at a reasonable purchase price, a second hand copy is the right investment for you.

EPA Releases New Climate Change Actuarial Stats
(Washington, D.C., USA, Oct. 1, 2017) - The Federal Environmental Polluters Agency (EPA) today released updated Climate Change Generational Impact (CCGI) actuarial tables for the 2018 fiscal year which began on October 1, 2017. For the tenth year in a row, the statistics show that the chances that oneâs great-grandchildren will be unaffected by the impact of hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes and the melting of polar ice caps is greatest for white men with assets in excess of US $500 million.
The tables evaluate the impact of climate change and global warming on future generations of Americans broken down by race, ethnicity, gender, age, income and location. As in past years, low-income black female residents of low-lying coastal areas fare the worst, with the chances of survival of future generations the lowest of all Americans. (Statistics were adjusted to account for the high percentage of black males who are incarcerated or not part of the formal work force.) White male oil industry chief executives living in Texas scored the highest, with Connecticut-based hedge fund managers coming in a close second.
The EPA has been maintaining the CCGI tables since Congress passed the âForget About The Climate And geT rich while you can (FATCAT) Actâ in the wake of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
âHouston is a bit too close to the Gulf for comfort,â said an oil and gas executive who appeared on â60 Minutesâ this week with his face screened and his voice digitally altered. âWe know that New Orleans will soon be engulfed, and Hurricane Harvey this year demonstrated that Houston is not far behind. But Iâve moved my family to Dallas, and I feel confident that my family will be well-protected for generations to come from the environmental degradation for which I am personally responsible.â
A hedge fund manager based in Greenwich, Connecticut, who did not want to be identified for fear of mobs gathering at the gate of his 100-acre estate in Greenwichâs tony âback country,â said, âWe tried investing in clean energy initiatives, but who were we kidding? Thereâs no money there. Coal-belching factories in China and underpaid labor-intensive enterprises in India provide a much better return on investment.â
He continued, âAs for me, between the federal carried interest tax loophole and Connecticutâs lack of an income tax, I can afford to live insulated from any negative impact from global warming. My family will be fine at least for the next two or three generations. And thatâs all that matters, right?â

A Warning from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries
âRisk Alert: Mathematical Model Manipulation
There are a number of risks associated with the use of mathematical models; members must exercise care when using mathematical models to ensure that the rationale for selection of a particular mathematical model is sound and, in applying that mathematical model, it is not inappropriately used solely to provide evidence to support predetermined or preferred outcomes.â
In other words, if you put biased assumptions into a mathematical model, the spurious results will appear to confirm your bias. Itâs an important warning which should be heeded. I have, incidentally, added the word âmathematicalâ to discourage people from thinking of photographic models.
The warning has similarities to the post âThe EU Debate: Lies, Damned Lies and Economic Forecastsâ on this blog on 13th May last year.
