Ok ok. So. Earlier I saw an artist (who I won’t name cause I’m not trying to start drama, just need to rant) who posted art of a character with heavy facial scarring. Said art was annotated ‘awfully disfigured’. Not a great phrase to hear (as a clefty). I then said to him that that’s Probably not the best phrase to use, because deformities Aren’t awful, no matter the level, and its Such a tiring phrase to hear. He then got defensive and said something along the lines of ‘he literally got eaten? I wouldn’t say it about a real person, it’s an anime character.’ Blah blah blah etc you get the idea. Basically saying it’s Fine to say that shit because it’s Not Real. Gross. I tried to explain this to him, and he bought up that the character was a zombie? Still not great and again? Don’t see how that makes it better?? When I responded saying this, I got the classic ‘oh I’m sorry You’re offended’ spiel and then he deleted the comment thread. All in all very shitty and annoying and something I see FAR to often. It sucks. SO. My angry thoughts are: let’s Maybe stop using phrases like ‘awfully deformed’ ‘awfully disfigured’ ‘awfully disabled’ and stop being fucking Patronising and stop pitying disabled and disfigured/deformed people because we don’t Need your fucking pity. Yes it sucks sometimes and yes there’s days where I fucking Hate being disabled and scarred, but at the end of the day that’s My thoughts about myself, I do not need an able bodied person to give me the whole ‘oh you poor thing :(‘ monologue over and over again because it’s SHIT. I’m disabled and deformed and it’s not Awful because it’s ME and if you say shit like that? Actually fuck off

Not ignoring the genuine issues with plastic surgery but please remember that a lot of the life saving surgeries disabled or deformed people need are also considered plastic surgery in many cases
