IS EVERYONE JUST GOING TO IGNORE THE FACT THAT THE ACTING GOD DAVID TENNANT DRESSED LIKE MARY POPPINS AND SANG A LULLABY?!
This is the actor of the century folks.
So about all these awards..
So we all know that Suranne Jones is going to be nominated (and win) all the awards for Gentleman Jack. Fingers crossed for the Emmys next week. What are people’s thoughts on the sequence they could possibly use to represent Suranne’s utterly glorious performance. The hilltop scene? The raffle ticket scene- the Ainsworth scene- an edited sequence of all the walking .. the list is endless..what are your favourites?
To keep it simple though they could just use this wonderful gif and have done..
The master of physical acting...
Casey Affleck has a great expressive face and a beautiful voice, but he’s also a grandmaster of physical acting. He not only changes his physique with nearly every role he takes on, he changes his ways of moving, walking, gesturing, even the ways he smokes, stands, sits... it sounds obvious, but just watch a few actors in different roles, and you’ll see that it’s NOT common at all. Most actors change their way of talking or smiling, but that’s about it. Casey Affleck disappears in his characters, despite of his unique voice and charismatic face, and he does it via genius physical acting.
In Manchester by the sea his movements are slow, often awkward, only half alive, just like his griefing character Lee Chandler. The scene in the morgue, him looking at his brother‘s corpse, is an acting masterclass in physically acting out restraint emotions, and grief.
In Gone Baby Gone he’s all Boston cool kid, gangly, slightly dangerous in his body language. A bit like in Out of the furnace, where he ads quite a bit of passive aggressiveness, and restraint anger.
He’s chillingly economical and purposeful in his movements in The Killer Inside me, which gives his monstrous character Lou Ford a disconcerting sexiness and erotic charisma that makes the impact he has on the two women who fall for him totally believable.
In The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford his movements are boyish, cocky, youthful, which makes him a believable 19-years-old (he was 31 in real life), stumbling around Jesse James like an adoring puppy.
In The Old Man and the Gun, he’s the worn out cop, aged prematurely before Robert Redford makes him feel young again.
In the Ocean’s-trilogy, he can use his funny bones, doing some gorgeous physical comedy scenes.
And in Gerry, he disappeares before our eyes so to say, dying slowly of thirst, moving slower and slower, getting weaker and weaker...
And then there’s A Ghost Story, a movie he spends almost entirely under a sheet and still manages to express so much emotion just with his body movements. Incredible really
I could go on and on. He’s just remarkable in everything he ever did. He’s the most complete actor of our time, and the fact that his body of work is so small (though exquisite) is driving me crazy sometimes.
And that's what you can see and feel in each of his characters. A very profound empathy that makes them so unique, emotional and relatable.

See the difference?!
It’s mind blowing isn’t it??
