Anime Crossroads 2017 Wrap-Up
Last year was a colossal blunder which landed me 4 free VIP badges. My friends and I only had to pay our way to the hotel. Last year I was very much miserable and considering never coming back after 2017. This year was a much better experience overall. Pros:
-Actually treated like a person this year and I was able to get seats where I could actually see (though this could be due to a VIP badge)
-Relatively easy to navigate -Great guests and a wonderfully accommodating kimono vendor (Tangerine Mountain) -a relatively laid back and relaxing convention -there’s a ramp on the stage this year! -gorgeous hotel Cons:
-no disability badge. -convention hotel is wayyyy too small and hard to navigate -staff can have miscommunications. My group of four(includes me) was told that we were fine to all stay in the room for the masq. “Everyone” was told that the four of us were fine - except we were told by one person that only myself and someone pushing me could enter. It isn’t as if I’m abusing the privilege. Most cons such as ACen with disability policies allow up to 3 other people with the individual in a wheelchair. This is because some people may need extra care. Someone may watch our stuff while my “handler” takes me to the bathroom. Someone carries my handler’s things while someone opens doors, helps maneuver me if I get stuck, etc. If other groups of 5,6,7 people can come in and claim seats and not be separated from their friends - why am I different?
- no name tags on the badges? This makes it difficult if, for instance, someone is assaulted. They wont know the name of who did it.
Overall, the convention has already improved from last year. I loved seeing accommodations made to the masq. stage this year. This convention, like most, should really consider better accommodations for those with special needs and consider a disability badge rather than, on most occasions, making individuals pay an extra $60 to SOMETIMES get seats near the front or get in the front of the line. Staff was much more pleasant overall this year and I loved certain vendors and guests.

#acr2017 has been the most relaxing convention I've been to in a while. Huge thank you to the staff for helping my disabled significant other feel like a person and not a bother, and to the congoers who did so as well. I had a blast! #tokyoghoulcosplay #selfie #animecrossroads #across2017
