I'm reading fanfiction (like always) and there's something I want to comment on that I see way, way too often.
When you help someone out of an abusive situation, do not burn their previous clothes or belongings without their knowing permission. Even if the clothes are ratty or the only toys they have are broken.
You don't know if one of their jackets or toys is a comfort item for them, something they're very attached to. I know I would be absolutely wrecked if someone destroyed one of my comfort items behind my back and that is not something a traumatized and suffering person needs when they're barely starting to trust their new family, or at any time actually.
Don't destroy people's belongings if you don't explicitly get permission from that person that they want them destroyed. Characters should not be praised for doing this.
