I am specifically talking about how bipartisanship is elevated to an end itself of good governance and not simply one of a variety of means of governing well and achieving the policy outcomes you want! It’s fucking galling and genuinely concerning that this is the attitude of de facto opposition to the Republican Party —a political party that has spent the past half-century radicalizing and organizing around its far right constituency.

Not only is viewing a tactic as a strategic outcome deeply irresponsible in any context, it’s absolute malpractice when we’re talking about the domestic (including civil rights) and foreign policy of the global hegemon! It’s how you get liberal media outlets and politicians touting the passage of the “Fund the Department of Homeland Security’s Dedicated Ethnic Cleansing Force, Further Weaken Social Security, but hey Also Some Roads Maybe” Budget Bill as a bipartisan victory and evidence of the still-extant capacity for good governance in the USA.
