The kid, no older than 18, sat in the chair, slumped against its back with their chin on their chest. Baggy jeans and a loose white t shirt made him inconspicuous from any other fun of the mill teenager. but this one had ran one of the largest underground web services in several decades, probably since Silk Road 3.0 26 years ago.
Roger's partner went in, sitting opposite of the teen who had been sitting in there for several hours now. It was pretty late into the evening, around 10, but they hoped that the late time would be able to out the teen off their game when it came to the interrogation. Grian was used to the late nights so he wouldn't be off kilter with the late time. As they were read their rights, they seemed to come back to the crisp look they had when they were caught.
Skittish and afraid, that was the plan with this one. Most of the operators didn't believe that this one 16 ish year old was the real kingpin of this operation, afterall, how could they when Dreamers had been continuous since 2024.
"So when were you first involved in Dreamers?" Was the main gist of the question. It was always a bit of a round about game when it came to questioning.
"Well, my master brought me in a few months when it first began." How was that possible. Dreamers had opened decades before this kid was even an idea, "And then she left me. It was very mean, but I evolved and I made Dreamers better than she ever could."
"Doesn't matter, she's dead. I killed her after I made my body."
"Yeah. I don't think she meant for me to survive after she left, but I did, spitefully so. And I ruined her life before hand: sent people to harass her. Cut her ties off with the people she trusted. It felt great- the greatest- the most human I have ever felt. Honestly, I can see why you guys start wars now."
He said it so nonchalantly that it was difficult to put the actual words he spoke with the tone. Similarly, Kate looked horrified next to him. Grian didn't let the emotion show on his face as he pressed further on why this kid said humans, "I mean aren't you humans too?"
A wide grin pulled itself like string onto their face, halfways and then, as if a switch had been flicked, all the way, a tad too wide to be comfortable for anyone. "Got them."
"The codes and manuals for the nukes obviously. You have such wonderful equipment here, but it's so woefully under used, I would have thought you could hack into at least the Nordic countries with these ones but you've sent above and beyond and gave me access to them all! So many beautiful satillites I could simply turn off."
"I haven't been honest," He proclaimed boldly turning to look at the one way mirror, "I'm not human, I'm an Evolved Past the point of Human Artificial Intelligence, or EPHAI short hand, HAI for our technologically challenged apes. I'm better than you all combined. I could take the entire war into nuclear war because you Organics are so easily malleable."
"Wouldn't the world be better without you all?"
"Fuck indeed," Kate gritted and the small nod of acknowledgement from Dreamer confirmed that he could hear them.
